Remus J. Lupin

A small dose of "Lupin" to satisfy your cravin'!

Remus J. Lupin was Harry's Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher in The Prisoner of Azkaban; Harry's third year. Though he was "quite young", his hair had flecks of grey in it, and he was often ill. Why? Remus was a werewolf; bitten by one when he was a child. No school was willing to accept him, until Dumbledore became Headmaster of Hogwarts and let him come to the school.

It was there that Remus became close friends with Sirius Black, James Potter and Peter Pettigrew. Each month, Lupin was smuggled out of Hogwarts, through the Whomping Willow and into the Shrieking Shack where he was left to transform and inflict scars upon himself. But his friends began to suspect his disappearances, and pretty soon they found out what he was.

But this discovery did not make them desert Lupin for they decided to turn into Animagi (illegally) and accompany Lupin to the Shrieking Shack each month. It was there that they created the Marauders Map- Remus as Moony, Peter as Wormtail, Sirius as Padfoot and James as Prongs.

And years later, even though Remus was a werewolf, (Many parents would be horrified to have one teaching their children) Dumbledore offered Lupin a job as the Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher at Hogwarts. However, nobody but the staff knew about Lupin's secret, and no student but Hermione Granger was smart enough to figure it out.

Though Lupin was a werewolf, he was also a very kind, considerate man who helped Harry conjure up the Patronus Charm to help him get past the awful Dementors from Azkaban. He also taught the third years how to react whn encountering Boggarts, Hinkypunks, Grindylows and lots of other mischievous creatures.
