Disney-MGM Studios

Home

This was my second favourite of the four parks, and two of the days we spent there were Christmas Eve and our last day at WDW, New Year's Eve. We also spent the 27th of December there - just mum and me, while dad was away.
MGM has the added bonus of having the Spectacle of Lights at Christmas time, which was absolutely incredible, and we spent the nights of the 24th and 31st roaming around the Spectacle.

We met this charming Toy Soldier and equally charming Snowman at the Spectacle.

The park has a fantastic atmosphere and more characters than you could, uh, shake a stick at. I don't know why you'd want to do that, but that's what mum says. MGM had the most characters of the four parks, even more than MK. It was also fantastic to tour through the animation studios and see actual animators at work on films like "Lilo and Stitch", which isn't coming out for a few years, and "Monsters Inc", the upcoming Disney-Pixar flick. The Backlot tour was fantastic - I hated the Catastrophe Canyon part, which was living through an "earthquake" much like on the backlot tour at Universal Studios, but it was very impressive, it's just that I hate fire. It's funny to think of movies and shows being made at a Disney theme park. And of course, MGM has the best shows around - the Hunchback of Notre Dame, Beauty and the Beast, Indiana Jones, The Little Mermaid, even Fantasmic!.

Of course, it would be remiss of me not to mention that MGM is also the home of what is quite possibly the best ride in the universe ... The Twillight Zone Tower of Terror!!

Here's mum in front of the Hollywood Tower Hotel (or, if you will, the Tower of Terror) wearing her funky new Tower of Terror hat (which features Mickey peering into an elevator) and feeling both brave and about, well, thirteen stories high after going on the ride. She absolutely loved it.

On the 24th, after the Spectacle, we met Santa and Rudolph.

On the 31st, we got to hang out with Santa and two little chipmunks, who were a real laugh.

They were very cuddly and were fighting over who got to give me first hug. Chip stole my New Year's top hat they give out on, well, New Year's Eve, then Goofy took away my horn and tried to blow it, which didn't really work, then Dale stole dad's top hat. (I'm wearing mum's.) The photos turned out pretty well, and it was a great memory.
