Highlights of the 1999 Canadian GP. A great race for Hakkinen fans, as he proved the best man and the only champion to beat the 'Wall of Champions'. Indeed, Turn 13 claimed 3 world champions in the same race - Schumacher, Hill and Villeneuve. This was also the only F1 race in history to finish behind the safety car.

French GP Highlights
Without doubt one of the best races of the year. A rainy qualifying session saw a totally crazy grid, with Barrichello on pole and Alesi second! Coulthard lead until his McLaren broke down (again!). Once the rain started it threw a spanner in the works and Heinz Harald Frentzen came out on top, scoring Jordan's second win.

British GP Highlights
The race that turned the world championship upside down. After Schumacher's famous smash at Stowe, leader Hakkinen lost a wheel and retired. With the two protagonists out, this race marked the return of team-mates, as Coulthard won from Irvine.

Amazingly, David Coulthard tipped Hakkinen into spin on the first lap. Even worse for the Scot was that he lost the race to Eddie Irvine in the pitstops. Hakkinen through caution to the wind with several daring moves to get back to P3.

This race really made Eddie Irvine's championship aspirations look realistic as he emerged with an eight point lead over Mika Hakkinen in the title race. Both Hakkinen and Coulthard suffered terrible woes in the German Grand Prix, again leaving the way open for those Ferraris.

He started second, but contacted with his his teammate into Turn 1 and come out ahead; a lead which he held on to for the entire race. With the championship on a knife-edge, Hakkinen was not happy man, leaving the winners rostrum as soon as he could.

Highlights of the Italian Grand Prix at Monza. This was one of the most emotional races of the season, especially for Mika Hakkinen. Leading comfortably, the McLaren driver spun off at the first chicane, just as at Imola. This meant that at the end of this race, he and Eddie Irvine were equal on 60 points each.

A look at the amazing qualifying session for the '99 European GP at the Nurburgring. With the track drying rapidly, almost every car across the line took a top position, with the pole changing 4 times in the last minute!! The tactical Heinz-Harald Frentzen was the last man across the line and he duelly clinched pole position.

This race probably sums up the chaotic 1999 season at it's best, with points being passed inadvertently between several different teams. The McLaren team floundered again, putting Hakkinen on wets when it was not wet enough, while Ferrari famously forgot one of Irvine's tyres during his pitstop. Then four different drivers for four different teams took the lead, then retired: Frentzen, Coulthard, Fisichella and Ralf Schumacher. This left another driver and another team team to take Glory - Stewart Ford and Johnny Herbert.

The first Malaysian Grand Prix marked the return of Michael Schumacher after a six race absence. He immediately blew away the opposition, qualifying more than a second quicker than teammate Eddie Irvine. He and Irvine then walked to first and second places, with Michael yielding to let Irvine through, while he held up third placed Hakkinen.
