What is a Shaman?

img

A Shaman is an individual who has been presented with the responsibility of communicating directly with healing spirits through an ancient technique known as "Journeying." Shamanism is a "technique of ecstasy" (Mircea Eliade)

J ourneying enables the Shaman to travel at will into, what is otherwise known as non-ordinary reality, an altered state of consciousness.  In non-ordinary reality the Shaman meets with particular helping spirits who will provide the power, wisdom and spiritual healing needed to bring the client's "here and now" -- what we know as ordinary reality -- back into balance. Much beneficial or vital power can be restored to patients, sometimes by extracting discomforting power.

E ach Shaman is shown their specific path of healing.  A path that has been said by Rbt. Lowie to show "extraordinary manifestations of reality." A Shaman’s healing path is revealed through a series of spirit driven initiations which take place in both ordinary and non-ordinary reality.

T hese initiations deepen the Shaman’s relationship to all spirits -- he may work with every one available. Or just some specific ones will present with individualized wisdom and power. Michael Harner says, "He (the Shaman) is a self-reliant explorer of the endless mansions of a magnificent hidden universe. Finally, he brings back his discoveries to build his knowledge and to help others."

O ne does not step up and immediately announce that you are a Shaman. All the shamanic training in the world will not give you that title. Shamans are folks -- male and/or female -- who use a "learned awareness of shamanic methods and assumptions"(M.Harner) to journey on behalf of others and subsequently work miracles. In many cultures, Shamans are chosen or called by others. The naming of someone as a Shaman is done by the patients, clients and/or community. There is no wonder that it has been called, "The world's oldest profession."

H ere at Wild Heart Journey, the healing path we have been initiated into enables us to work with all manner of associated loving spirits. We have over 30 successful years of cross-cultural work with an unlimited number of helping spirits. They are the ones who communicate and impart healing energy and information to be used for the clients. The human patients, as well as, the menagerie -- the entire Peaceful Kingdom -- of domestic and wild animals.

In this union with timeless wisdom, with your own soul's fire, you evoke change that can have profound effects on your life. (AU)

Dwell not on past mistakes, nor on the way you have strayed, going your own way, losing the vision. Return and know that love is here waiting for you, ready to take you into its arms, to guide and direct you, to clear your vision again. Love is ever here waiting for you when you are ready to accept it.

This is a state of consciousness, a state of being whole; of being in contact with the highest within you, of being in touch, and all can acquire it when they really want to and are ready to do something about it.

This is a way of engaging a person's subconscious desires for healing. As long as it works (which it does, for many people), it doesn't much matter which way you explain it. Use the way that's most comfortable for you.(AU)
