The Road To Hawaii

A Milestone is reached, a new chapter in the book, a new look for the Blog
Mood:
celebratory
Well everyone...here's a new chapter in the life of the book/website/etc! I never really liked the format of the old blog because I seemed to lose track of the weeks that passed and if I posted late and collected more than one week together, that threw the count off...and it never really seemed to reflect the fact that this is all happening NOW...in real time (unless I posted later and tried to catch up!) Also, entering into the blog was a time consuming and tedious process, so I wanted to find something simpler...
So, in the interest of trying something NEW, I'm trying this blog builder to see if I can simplify the way entries get onto the blog...we'll see how it all works! Here's the first entry, so Enjoy!
We've made some milestones this week! We finally planted this Plumaria! The funny thing about it was this: When the Roof trusses were delivered to our site, the truck must have hit a Plumaria because there was a stick (only about 7-8 inches long) that had been broken off of a plumaria SOMEWHERE along the road...and it was resting on top of the pile of trusses. The woman who was driving the truck saw it and was going to toss it, but then said, "You know, if you put this in some dirt, and water it, it will grow! These things grow ANYWHWERE!" So she gave it to me and I put it in a soda bottle full of dirt and watered it and placed it along side the frame that was was our house...
The funny thing is, that would have been something my Mom would have told me...she loved plants and was such a knowledgeable gardener...she'd worked at a nursery for some years later in her life and just loved it! I'd always thought she should have opened her own nursery, but it never came to be...
I'd hoped she'd make it out here one day and just bask in the tropical flowers and help us to plant a beautiful landscaping...
So, in honor of her, I'm trying my best to come up with some things to plant in her memory. I'd always envisioned some Plumaria close to the house because they are so fragrant and pretty. This is that poor little stick I planted into a soda bottle the week the roof trusses came. The flowers blossomed just this past week!
What a difficult hole to dig! I had to unearth SO MANY Lava Rocks turning this "5 minute job" into a 2 hr swearfest! (I mean "task!") But, ultimately, it's a labor of love! What A lovely sight! Our new house...our first Plumaria...
Betsy has always enjoyed keeping the place nice & working outside...one of her FAVORITE activities (I kid you not) is mowing the lawn! She gets "in the zone" when she's mowing the lawn...and I understand the Zen of that...time to think...focused...nothing else but you, the grass, the mower and the thoughts in your own head...OK...
Well, with so many rocks here, and no mower yet, here's the "next best thing"...weed wacking!
She's trying out her brand new weed wacker...she looks like she's having some fun, doesn't she? Well, we were both tired and she only did a little test of the weed wacking, but it was enough to give us confidance that the one we bought will do the trick! (Well, at least until we get to the really thick/hard stuff!) We also have a lexan blade for cutting that stuff!)

Thursday June 16, 2005 Working from HOME! I'm "working from home" today...MY home...yep, living the dream now, braduh! Living in Hawaii...working from home...working for myself...take THAT, all you horrible bosses everywhere! (I'd say "You know who you are!", but the truth is, they are usually such horrible judges of reality and so out of touch that they really DON'T know who they are...)

Up before the crack of dawn even THOUGHT of Cracking! Lots of appointments!
Wednesday June 15, 2005 Up before the crack of dawn even THOUGHT of Cracking! Lots of appointments! So, anyway, we're up in the dark (AGAIN!), and wandering around like something out of a Zombie movie (AGAIN!) and wouldn't you know it...ANOTHER CENTIPEDE!!! GOD< I hope this isn't a sign of things to come...I DON'T want to find one in my bed... So anyway, I have a number of appointments today, one of which takes me: Back to Holualoa! Oh, no...It's "The driveway!!!" This particular driveway/road is typical of "paved" Coffee Farm/Mac nut farm roads. The farms are typically on VERY STEEP hillsides (since we are on an Island that is essentially a very large mountain/volcanic peak rising out of the ocean!) and this particular road slopes down from the highway in steps...each step has a STEEP incline that just cannot easily be captured by the camera...but trust me...it's SCARY going down! The first drop, from the main road to the driveway is like the first hill on a rollercoaster...all you see is sky, then suddenly you're looking down this incredible hill, hoping the brakes work! Barely wide enough for one vehicle, the jeep's mirrors are in constant danger of hitting the lava rock walls to either side, which has fallen in spots...for just a HINT of how steep this incline really is, look at the house to the right of the following picture, and see the vertical lines of the wall in relation to the road...I'm telling you...nothing in these pictures compares to the feeling in your gut as you head down!) and it just seems to go down forever...I think it must be about a mile down Thursday June 16, 2005 Working from HOME! I'm "working from home" today...MY home...yep, living the dream now, braduh! Living in Hawaii...working from home...working for myself...take THAT, all you horrible bosses everywhere! (I'd say "You know who you are!", but the truth is, they are usually such horrible judges of reality and so out of touch that they really DON'T know who they are...

Up before the crack of dawn even THOUGHT of Cracking! Lots of appointments!
Monday June 13, 2005 Up before the crack of dawn even THOUGHT of Cracking! Lots of appointments! It's quite an adjustment, commuting in to Kona together at such an UNGODLY hour! We get up around 4:30AM, and we're out by 5:15AM...Hey, I was a musician in another lifetime...I am a NIGHT person...my body doesn't do those kinds of hours! But we'll make all kinds of sacrifices to live in Paradise and save a little money on gas, since it's around $2.70/gal. for regular...we try to get our gas at Costco where it's ONLY $2.39/gal... So, anyway, we're up in the dark, and wandering around like something out of a Zombie movie, and I see it...the cat sees it, and I freak out! CENTIPEDE!!!!! Oh God no! Not HERE! NOT IN OUR NEW HOUSE!!! I grab the scissors and catch him, head for the toilet, where I dangle his ugly ass over the bowl and "SNIP"... he's now in two very unhappy pieces, dropping into the swirling water of a quick flush and away he goes! Well, NOW I'm awake! I think he was in a woven floor mat we just got on the way home last evening. It was still rolled up, (we had not yet "deployed" it" and typically, they keep these things outside...so one might have gotten into it and there he was...but I'm watching closely now...no more barefoot around in the dark!

Wednesday, 8 June 2005
Wednesday June 8, 2005 Going over to Ellen & Tony's to access the internet! It's a "Big Deal..." They're off the electric grid, but have a generator. So getting onto the internet requires me hooking up the generator...and I don't know what the ISP is or how to set up my outgoing mail server so that it will send, so I can receive my mail, I just can't send anything. But I can work around that...

Tuesday June 7, 2005 A WINDY day in Ka'u! It's a "Big wind..." kind of day here at the house! There is stuff blowing around like crazy! The trees are moving and the wind is whistling! Poor Peekie (our cat) is freaking out because everything is making strange noises...he spent most of the day hiding...or walking wherever I went...I go upstairs, he goes upstairs. I go downstairs, he goes downstairs!

Monday June 6, 2005 Appointments today! I left early this morning on the Motorcycle for a couple consulting appointments. I met Betsy after the first one and took the Jeep to the second one because I had something to carry home to fix. It's always fun going over to visit Betsy at her workplace because one of the perks that she has there is use of the "Company Cat", Percy! Percy is one of Hawaii's many feral cats (cats living in the wild). There are several that hang around the lumberyard and visit because they've been feeding a small group of about 3 or 4 for quite some time now. MOST of the feral cats will avoid human contact at all costs! But Percy is a very well behaved, docile and lovable kitty, who happens to live at the lumberyard, but resides in Betsy's office. She'll be greeted by Percy in the morning at her office door. Percy will become quite vocal, talking up a storm, and coming into the office and eventually settling down somewhere...usually in one of the printer paper boxes under the table, but many times she'll either be on the desk waiting for some petting, or in Betsy's chair! Apparently, because my wife is such a good animal person, the "Company Cat" has become her own personal co-worker! I was heading over by Costco so I stopped and gassed up the Jeep and got some food for tonight...because we don't have a stove yet, all we can eat is microwaveable foods or stuff we can do on an electric grill we use for things like fish or chicken. But tonight we feast on one of our favorites, Costco's Rotisserie Chicken...People wait in line for it, and as quickly as they put them out they get scooped up. This is the second time in a week I have to wait for the next batch... It's so very popular because they're $4.99 for a 3 lb chicken...cooked to perfection! Add a Parisian Salad (It's a salad in a bag...some assembly required!) which has the best salad dressing I've ever had! At $3.99 each, we get two meals for 2 people out of them for under $10 bucks! That's cheaper than going out, or ordering Pizza, and it's better food!

Saturday June 4, 2005 Merry Christmas! Today we went to "the big city" (Downtown Naalehu) and much to my surprise, Betsy was finally beaming with a grin from ear to ear. She finally feels like she's "home", and we've begun "nesting" in the new house, and I think that things are finally settling down...no more looming deadlines ahead, no more moving, no more waiting to unpack...we're HOME! So, today we opened boxes that we've been transporting for over a year!! Boxes filled with items that were destined for "the new House". Some items we bought for the new house shortly after we bought the land more than 3 years ago! Some of the things we decided to keep from our home in Massachusetts but haven't seen in over a year and have forgotten what we kept and what we got rid of...so it was truly like Christmas! Later, I went and brought my Triumph from over at my in-laws place. We have a VERY STEEP dirt and lava rock driveway (which is NOT terribly safe for riding the motorcycles, so we decided to store them over at the in-laws place...still dirt and grass, but it's level ground...) When I took Betsy's bike home the other night and started down our hill I hit a small rock and I was SURE I was going down...but I kept it up...much to my surprise, and much to Betsy's delight!) So, we also gave our motorcycles a good washing since we don't have any condo Nazis to tell us that the condo rules say we can't wash our vehicles on the premises anymore! My house! My rules! If I want to wash my motorcycle, I CAN! If I want to run around naked, I CAN! Woo Hoo! if I want to wash my motorcycle naked, I CAN! (Well, no, Betsy said I CAN'T...Oh well!)

Friday June 3, 2005 Welcome to Hawaii, where no one takes scheduling or performing quality work terribly seriously!!
We were supposed to have our High speed internet installed today. I called and scheduled it several weeks ago. Everything was SUPPOSED to be all set! So Betsy gets a call at work from the tech who is scheduled to come out to our house and do the install, and he's wondering where in Waimea our street is located! (Waimea is about 100 miles from where we are located!) He doesn't know how they got this install so screwed up, but now it's up to US to try and straighten it out! Well, first off, it's apparently "lunchtime" because no one is answering the phone at the office...I waited 20 minutes "for the next available representative" before I got fed up and hung up because I had an incoming call...It was Betsy wondering how it was going...she decided to walk across the street from where she works to their office and talk to a HUMAN BEING to try and see about this. She calls back, they had not one piece of information correct for our install...the wrong address, the wrong city...about the only thing that was correct was the date...and in fact, the Kona office doesn't even handle our area down south...the office that handles our area is out in Hilo, so now we have to talk to the Hilo office to re-schedule...meaning perhaps a wait of several weeks without any internet! (We have no "land line" to even dial out...) This is just about the worst thing that can happen for me, because much of my business depends upon the ability to have internet access, as well as my plan to keep in touch with family via the internet! We're waiting for a call back from the Hilo office...but it's Friday, and it's 3:30PM, and we're in Hawaii...I just don't expect a call back (ever!) So we'll have to call them to see what's happening...I'm "waiting for the next available specialist!"... So, while I'm waiting, let me tell you about our electrical wiring fiasco...We had been waiting for the electrician to finish up wiring the house, he was very busy, but finally got here on Monday...but meanwhile there were two assistants actually installing the wall sockets and switches and ceiling fans and such...one guy was his regular electrician assistant, another was a kind of "handyman" (or should I say, NOT so handy man...I'm pretty sure he didn't know what he was doing because I watched him pulling the excess "mud" from around the switch boxes...PULLING it, not cutting it nice and square, but PULLING IT, which meant he would pull and get more than he should have or break off pieces of the sheet rock, leaving large irregular HOLES around each socket or switch box that he touched...holes which *I* would now have to fix because he didn't have the sense to use a knife or saw blade to cut in nice and square...MORON! Anyway, I then went ahead of him and cut all the boxes clean so he only ruined two or three of them, but that was MORE THAN enough to piss Betsy off! However, he wired up much of the stuff...the fans, outlets and switches...some boxes had 2 or 3 switches in them and they needed to be wired correctly...I'm pretty sure he had no idea what he was doing, and I should have taken over because I thought at the time he didn't know what he was doing...but I didn't...(I should always trust that inner voice...) Upstairs we have 5 recessed lighting cans, 2 cans are over the stairs controlled by switches at the top and bottom of the stairs (They work JUST fine!), 2 more over the living room area (also controlled by switches at the each end of the room) and one more controlled by a single switch. 3 of the lights do not seem to work as predicted...in fact I was sure that one can didn't work at all until I happened upon the correct combination of 4 switches! And the lights in the upstairs bathroom do not work at all. they did (at least one of them did...) once! Just like the track lighting over the table...it worked once...now I'm not sure if some combination of switches has caused it to fail or what... I was not to happy about this either...I mean, this is science, but it isn't rocket science! I took some time to make a "Truth Table" of the 4 switches to try and figure out what is going on...That is when I discovered the magic combination of switches which turned on the one can I thought wasn't working... So today I spent time making a list of some of the things that should be working that are not (like the refrigerator's ice maker, the fan/light in the other downstairs bedroom or switches which should be swapped to make "more logical sense" because it just makes "more logical sense" to have the switch that controls a light to be mentally and physically associated to the light it controls) And we just got a call from Lowe's (where we purchased our appliances) It seems the good news is that they've located our clothes Dryer...it's "IN"... IN ALASKA! Yep, the bad news is it is on a ship bound for Alaska...amazing! It will be here in about 3 more weeks...

Thursday June 2, 2005 Commuting from down south to Kona !!
Gawd! Another really busy day. I have Two appointments in Kona today, and have to take the Motorcycle out to Kona. I'll meet Betsy at her work and take the car from there in case I have to carry a PC home. The ride is nice on the way out, and though it is long, it is enjoyable! People told me they thought that the commute would get old really fast...but it's NOT like sitting in Boston's "Big Dig" traffic, stuck in some tunnel somewhere...even where it does bottleneck, I have pretty things to look at, like the ocean, or the landscape or the people...not breathing fumes in some tunnel in Boston, or stuck on Route 2 in the middle of the woods doing the rumba line instead of doing the speed limit. Yes, traffic in Kona is "horrible"...Betsy finds it especially bad coming home at certain times of the day, BUT, she's adjusted her schedule so that she gets up "An hour before God" (I love that) and leaves here (and work) early enough to not have to deal with most of that traffic that jams up in Kona, South Kona and thru Captain Cook. It's about 6 miles that can take 25-35 minutes because people here just don't know how to drive...and there are too many people commuting from south of Kona for this type of road! I hope that may change...as more people move south, perhaps more business will move there as well, and less people will think of Kona as "the center of the Universe"...but as long as there is only one Costco on the island, there will be traffic out to Kona for the cheap gas and goods.
Wednesday, 1 June 2005
Wednesday June 1, 2005 Well, the plan was to go to Hilo on Sunday to Visit my daughter and grandson one last time before they leave, but it's Wednesday and they are leaving tomorrow!! We were both up at 4:30 this AM because the cat is REALLY unsettled...every little noise, every movement...he was up and down all night...which kept US up all night! Betsy left for work at 6AM, and I spent the day figuring out where stuff was...unpacking critical items and setting up the kitchen and one bathroom so that we could at least cook and shower. Betsy worked all day, and when she got home it was time to get in the car and head out to Hilo to see the kids one last time! Even though it's only 60 miles now from our house in Naalehu, it will be another late night...and we're already pretty sleep deprived. The baby is getting so BIG! We don't want to miss that part of him growing up, so we agree to do webcam stuff and audio chat to keep in touch once they get settled. They'll be visiting MA for a month, so they can go to my sister's house and we can chat/video from there at least once before they head for Georgia...once they get settled in GA they will get high speed internet and we can have regular chats...that's one way that the technology I've spent my life developing and working with is changing the way we communicate and shrinking the world in which we live. I think it's cool! I've always imagined that this stuff would be of some practical use to ordinary people...and here it is...finally!

Tuesday May 31, 2005
Our first night in the new HOUSE!
What a weird day! All the last minute things get taken out of the house, meaning I finally tear down the computer network and pack it all up. I'd wanted to leave that for the last possible moment because I just don't trust that we'll actually get our high speed internet set up on Thursday! We really depend on the internet for communication now...I use it to talk to my sister back in MA, and we use it during the day to communicate while Betsy's at work...I use it to research prices for various hardware items I suggest to clients...without it I am somewhat useless!
Betsy is off to work this AM, and I have the pleasure of grabbing all the little things that are left, loading them all up, and taking them down to the house. Including the cat, who has been getting progressively more and more upset as things have been getting moved. The last time our house looked like this it involved him getting into that cat carrier and getting on a plane for 20 something hours, and he REALLY didn't like it!
Today, he's been having a mental fit! Up until now I'd hidden that cat carrier so as not to cause him any undue stress. As I dragged it out and began to assemble it he ran off and hid in the closet! Poor PK!
I fit pretty much everything into the car, leaving room for just one more thing...the cat carrier with our poor cat inside. He doesn't like riding in the car and meows these horrible moans of distress the whole way down...all one hour and 20 minutes!
Betsy is out of work now too and we'll be meeting at the new house...she left for work from the Apt and will be returning to the "New House"! How very strange that all is!
I waited for her to "Unveil" the new house to the cat...It was pretty funny. Poor Peekie...we opened up the cat carrier and he sniffed and explored the entire downstairs, then found a place to hide and stayed there for the next few hours! He didn't even want to go upstairs. The house is kind of empty and has that hollow echo that empty places have, so every noise sends him freaking out! We get some things settled enough to sleep here for the night and are exhausted. By nightfall that's exactly what we do.
Monday, 30 May 2005
Monday May 30, 2005 Well, the plan was to finish up before today so we'd have a day off!!
But rarely do things go as planned on "The Road To Hawaii"... We're going to a bar-b-que out at Pu'u Honua O Honaunau. It is supposed to be a day of relaxation, food, friends and perhaps going into the water! But first, we make one more trip down south to bring a load and see where we stand... The electricity STILL hasn't been connected... We find that some more work has been done on the lights and electrical boxes... The Dining room lights are up, and the kitchen lights are up... but STILL no electricity! NOW we're worried! But we put it out of our minds for just a few hours, here in Honaunau! Addendum: making one last trip today! Just taking one last moment to send out email before I tear down the computer and we're offline for the remainder of the week (Until we get our broadband installed at the ol' homestead!) The LAST STUFF! It's been crazy around here for the past two weeks, and leading up to today the stress level has been very high for Betsy and me...*we* have a deadline...*we* must be out of the Apt...*we* have no place else to go but into our new house, however, those deadlines don't really exist for anyone else, right? Up until 8PM tonight, we STILL didn't have electricity to the house other than the Construction site utility box (supplying one 15 amp breaker !) We had a call from the electrician tonight and he said we have a live house now, but because we don't have a final inspection (and won't for quite some time) we have to go very easy on the electric use...no running the washer and microwave while using all the lights and etc... We have no stove yet because "It hasn't come in", but we cook in a microwave or grill most of the time anyway! We have a refrigerator, and so it won't quite be like camping for a while, because at least we now have running hot water , refrigeration and toilets!
Sunday, 29 May 2005
Sunday May 29, 2005 Well, the plan was to go to Hilo to Visit my daughter and grandson one last time before they leave!!
Now they're only 50 miles away, and it's "Good road" all the way there...so it's a fast 50 miles! BUT...We're still cleaning out the Apt... We'll have to try some time in the next two days to see my daughter and Grandson before they leave for the mainland. I hope we get to see them again before they go, but we're so busy moving, and they're so busy getting ready to move too that it may just be impossible. I'm sad because we won't get to see the day to day changes once they've left...that's the best part of watching the baby grow up, those little day to day changes. And our cat, PK, is having some real problems with all of our stuff disappearing again...the last time this happened it involved him getting put into a cat carrier and flying 20 hrs to Honolulu, getting put onto another plane, and then going in the car from the airport...by the time he was finished he'd been in that cat carrier almost 24 hrs and he meowed the whole time! (He HATES that thing!) So I kept the carrier well out of sight while we loaded up stuff into boxes and tubs so he wouldn't suspect anything. When it came time for these tubs to get loaded though, I think he was just ready to move! "Go ahead, load me up, put me on a plane! I just can't take the suspense anymore!"

Saturday May 28, 2005 The move down south!!
Things never go the way one plans...we had my brother in law's truck to use, but it picked up a screw in the tire (Which badly needs to be replaced anyway, but there are no tools in the truck and I can't figure out how to get the spare tire off!) and though it isn't flat we're taking the chance to drive it back to Naalehu, so, we get a can of flat fix, and stopping once on the way for a brief appointment I have to return a repaired laptop for a client we'll make our way down south. The brief appointment turns into a 2 hr ordeal, as configuring her mail client proves to be "problematic" for a number of reasons...but all is well and we are finally on our way with another load!.
Friday, 27 May 2005
Friday May 27, 2005 Everything must be OUT for the carpet cleaners to do their thing!!
Well, this is the last day we're here full time! The big items all have to be moved from off the carpets so the carpet cleaners can do their thing, which means we got to sleep on the blow up mattress again! It wasn't too bad this time around, because we knew the end was in sight and that we'd finally be going into our own home! But this is the last time after a long series of moves and transitions in the past year that I will have to sleep on a blow up mattress! We realize today that this whole process has taken nearly a year, since we actually started moving stuff out of the house in Ashburnham, MA and having to sleep on a blow up bed repeatedly...almost a year! WHEW! No WONDER we're TIRED!

Thursday May 26, 2005 Delivering flyers, uphill, both ways!! Well, I was up VERY early (out the door at 6AM) to deliver flyers for my consulting business (Again!) I got quite a workout because it was already about 80 degrees and sunny...and I had to walk about 2 miles in an area that has streets that basically go straight uphill...and once the sparkly things in front of my eyes stopped, I was ready for a nap! But there'll be time enough to sleep when I'm dead (apparently...because I'm not able to rest now!) Oh no, I have a truck to load up and drive 50 miles and unload...we've got one Mattress & Box spring to move today, and I get to do it by myself because Betsy has to work! Well, all went well except for the point in the drive where the TWO come-alongs I had used to strap the mattress down with came loose and the mattress flew off the back of the truck...If it wasn't so unbelievably stupid it would have been funny! (Actually, it WAS funny...I swear it flopped in the bed of the truck for about 2 seconds, then just raised up and took off like some kinda well designed aircraft which didn't have much of a glide path after all...because it flopped into the road like a dying beast of some kind...freaking out everyone on the road (including myself as I saw it in my rear view mirror) Of course, I stopped to return and retrieve it from the road...but in the time it took for me to turn around (literally "seconds") I had 3 cars stopped and two drivers out of the car and fighting over who was rightfully going to take possession of this newly found item...like cockroaches they were! (You have to understand, this happened in "Ocean View"...a place well known for the fringes of society to escape from the rest of the world...the area is nothing but lava field, and in the 80's a Japanese conglomerate decided to buy up this area for $300 million dollars for a development called Hawaiian Ocean View Estates (H.O.V.E.) They cleared "roads" (most are still unpaved), put in some electricity (most roads further than the main road have no connection to the electric grid either) and no one has county water or sewage so they are all on catchment water systems!) The investors lost all their money when the bubble of the late 80's burst and it was sold unfinished, for $30 million...but the land was so cheap for a while it was joked that you'd get a free acre with a tank of gas...well, it was cheap, but now with rising prices on the island some folks have found it to be one of the last affordable places on the Big Island! But, because of it's remoteness, desolation, (The barren lava fields are quite a sight!) and history of attracting people who didn't want to be found (It has been reported that the area has the largest population of Witness Relocation people than anywhere else in the country!) giving it a reputation for an outlaw mentality (many "houses" are little more than a conglomeration of "found" building materials, the area is 2nd only to Puna for the district with the most "unpermitted buildings") It is no wonder that one seizes the opportunity for a found mattress in the middle of the road! It wasn't until I showed up that the dispute was solved, "No folks, the mattress is MINE...see the truck with the matching box spring...yeah...it's mine...

Wednesday May 25, 2005 Houston, We have TOILETS!!
Another load, another LONG day! I was up VERY early to deliver flyers for my consulting business (Again! This working for yourself is harder than working for someone else, I'll tell you!), then I spent some time at home gathering things for the next load, but had a sudden appointment (gotta strike while the irons hot!) and...wasn't ready at all when Betsy arrived! ("Well oiled machine", my ass! You'd THINK after almost two years and 4 moves, we'd have this down to a science by now!) Well, we DON'T, but we also DON'T have all that much stuff for furniture, etc That was "by design"...we didn't want to have to move a lot of stuff twice...AND we didn't want to clutter up the new house with a bunch of stuff! Most of our stuff was still in the original boxes we shipped from MA, but that was what went on yesterday's load...Today, we're down to large furniture and small stuff we'd previously unpacked to make life in the apartment tolerable! But we make a load of the loveseat and some other stuff and we head on down! "I never have been as pleased to see, someplace to sit; someplace to pee!" (My apologies to all poets EVERYWHERE for that one!) I never thought I'd be so excited to see working toilets as I am this day! Betsy was so excited about it, she snapped this photo of the first flush! Yay! There is hope! Now for electricity...
