ARAPNet was the forerunner to the internet.

George Polya (1887-1985)

born in Budapest, Hungary, George Polya eventually enrolled at the University of Budapest to study law but found it boring.IN order for him to understand philosophy, he studied mathmatics. He was awarded his doctorate in mathematics in 1912.

Now Playing: the music in my head

Order of operations: please excuse my dear aunt sally.

P-----------------Parentheses (grouping symbols)
E-----------------Exponents
MD----Multiplication and Divison have equal priority
AS----Addition and Subtraction have equal priority

Fahrenheit_to_Centigrate

(F)=5/9(F-32)

Algebraic function definitions are patterns. The input variable is teh variable inside the parentheses. Whenever a function is evaluated, we replace that variable with a number and that same number must be copied dutifully everywhere else the variable appears in the formula.

Inverse-an inverse process will "undo" the work of another process or function.

example: C=5/9(f-32)

we see that this is basically the same relationship from the previous section. If F is teh temperature in degrees fahrenheit, then C is the equivalent tempereature in degrees celsius/centigrate.

in fact, whenever we have an equation and one variable is isolated ( on the left, usually) as we see here, we would say that "C is a function of F or C depends on the F". In theory, the variable F could have appeared more than once on the right side.

Could we use algebra to solve for F (isolate f instead)? Yes.

Pagathorean Theorem- right triangles and distances.

The two sides which form the right angle are called the legs. Their lengths are usually denoted by the letters a and b. The longest side opposite the right angle is the hypotenuse, usually denoted by the letter c.

Volume= 1/3 pie r square h

Application- time * rate= distance

Application- interest=principal*rate*time

Principal= the amount of money initially borrowed.

Rate= the rate of interest, typically expressed as a percent per year (per annum), but we always convert it to a deciaml number.

Time= the term of the loan, typically given in years.

At the end of the term, we must pay back the original principal plus the accured simple interest.
