Recommended Reading List
I would like to take this moment to share with you
what is on my bookshelves. I am not claiming to be an expert in
Wicca, but I do want to help those who are new to Wicca to find
their way. The following books are ones that I highly recommend
and think all newbie Wiccans should read. If you are interested
in these books, I carry several in my store, just look for the
* next to the book!
I am only providing a small review for the books
I have really enjoyed. If you have questions about a particular
book, please feel free to email me! I would love to discuss a
book with you. I have not listed a complete book inventory in
this list. I will add more books and may get rid of others as
time goes on; I just listed what I felt is essential to any beginning
Wiccan.
When you read a book, please keep in mind that only
you can pick the path that is right for you. Take everything you
read with a grain of salt! Our history is shaky and there are
many different conflicting stories about how Wicca was started.
Read all you can, stay true to what you believe and NEVER let
anyone tell you what is right and what is wrong. Wicca is in your
heart and soul, and only you can decide which path you follow.
“The Complete Idiot’s Guide
to Wicca and Witchcraft” by Denise Zimmerman
and Katherine A. Gleason.
Believe it or not, this is an excellent book!
It covers just about everything you could ever want to know about
Wicca and Witchcraft. Sometimes it is a bit general, but I feel
that overall it is an excellent read for anyone who is curious
about or new to Wicca. This book is also great for those of you
who want to come out of the “witches broom closet”.
Give this book to a loved one, parent or friend who just doesn’t
understand Wicca. It will ease their mind that this is a gentle
and loving path and not some sort of Satanic Cult!
“Wicca: A guide for the Solitary
Practitioner” by Scott Cunningham.
“Living Wicca: A Further Guide for the Solitary
Practitioner” by Scott Cunningham.
Both of these books are pretty good for a solitary
Wiccan. Scott Cunningham covers just about all the basis from
figuring out if solitary is right for you to covens to spells
and rituals. But this set is not among my favorite books.
“2004 Herbal Almanac”
from Llewellyn
This little book is updated yearly and is great
if you want to keep track of moon phases for different rituals
and spells. It covers herb magick & lore, growing & gathering
herbs, health & beauty herbs, and cooking & crafts with
herbs. It’s a nice, general reference guide.
"Faery Magick: Spells, Potions,
and Lore From the Earth Spirits" by Sirona
Knight
This book is for those of you who are interested
in the Fae. Sirona Knight covers the fae origins, history &
lore, as well as faery types, habits and tendencies. She also
covers ways to connect with them and warns of the disadvantages/advantages
of associating with the fae.
* “Celtic
Wicca: Ancient Wisdom for the 21st Century”
by Jane Raeburn
I cannot say enough about Jane Raeburn!! She is
a fantastic writer and held my attention throughout her book.
Too bad she doesn’t have any other history books I can read!
Celtic Wicca is pretty self explanatory. This book tells about
the Pagan religions of Britain and the history of Celtic Wicca.
What you read in this book about the Pagan religion will shock
you!
* “Celtic
Traditions: Druids, Faeries, and Wiccan Rituals”
by Sirona Knight
Another book on Faeries and Celtic Traditions.
She covers ancient goddesses and gods in this book as well as
some rituals.
"Flying Without A Broom: Astral
Projection and the Astral World" by D.J. Conway
Have you ever had an out of body experience? Have
you ever wanted to try? This is an awesome book about astral travels!
D.J. Conway gives advice on how to start a safe and fun journey.
This book has lots of visualization exercises that will help you
to travel safely.
* “Spell
Crafts: Creating Magical Objects” by Scott
Cunningham & David Harrington
This is a cute and fun little book on Wiccan crafts.
The authors will teach you how to make many wonderful and magickal
objects with your own hands! Ex. Magical simmering potpourris,
a beaded psychic mandala, clay pentacles and much more. This is
a great book for those of you looking for crafts to do with your
children.
“Drawing Down the Moon”
by Margo Adler
I believe this is the single, most important book
that every Wiccan should read. Margo Adler does a wonderful job
of researching Wicca in America. She answers all the questions
one would have! There is nothing on rituals or spells in here,
it is a right to the point history of Wicca. This book is way
outdated, but is still very valid and important to our religion.

of Wicca, Est. 1968)
