Aloha 'Ohana
Topic: Hula Review Sept-Nov '04 To the Parents: Your keiki (children) are doing absolutely great! We have come a long way as far as hula is concerned and they have all been patient and willing to learn. They have been able to absorb everything and have done a wonderful job! Take time with your children at home to review. Ask them what theyve learned. Let hula be an ohana (family) way of life. Encourage your child, teen, your peers to practice at home, to take the next step to research the song that they are dancing, to gain history of the composition, and to fully understand the reason why they are dancing hula. As you all may know, Halau O Aulani is preparing for our biggest event in 2005 which is May Day Hoolaulea set for May 7th. We certainly would appreciate help in making this event a success. We have started the planning and are trying to get the committees going. For more details on the committees please see Kahanuea (Wendy). Once a month while Kumu Paul is in town we hold a Na Lima Hana (Working Hands) meeting. We encourage all the parents to attend our next meeting on January 14th at 7:30p.m., the place is TBD. We are looking to do something central for everyone. If anyone knows of an available space in the Arlington area to use, please feel free to let Kahanuea know at wendyrogers@comcast.net. Mahalo to ALL the ohana (family) and haumana (students) for working hard to make these past events a success and for sharing the ALOHA spirit!!! Mahalo Nui Loa! Topic: Hula Review Sept-Nov '04 Hula Hoomaa (hula review) September November 2004 We have been blessed this halau year with Kumu Paul Neves taking Halau O Aulani under his wings. Kumu Paul has set forth a great curriculum this past term to help us get to know him as a Kumu Hula and also to better understand his Hula Style. Mahalo Kumu Paul for being able to come all the way from Keaukaha, HI every month to share your Aloha and perpetuate the hula. Halau O Aulani has come a long way since its incorporation as a halau. There have been a few styles of hula taught in the years and the haumana (students) have adjusted gracefully to Kumu Pauls hula.
