Langkawi is easily accessible by air, sea, rail and road. From Malaysia's capital city Kuala Lumpur, or other key cities in the country, you can take a direct flight on the national carrier Malaysia Airlines (MAS) daily. Singapore Airlines (SIA) also has direct flights to the island. The KL-Langkawi flight normally takes about 45 minutes.
There are regular ferry services from the mainland to Kuala Perlis or Kuala Kedah - two ferry points. Travel time differs depending on the exit point as well as mode of transport - motorboat or hydrofoil. Generally, it takes about 40 minutes to an hour. Visitors from Penang can take a daily ferry to Langkawi. The ferry operates once a day and the ride takes about three hours. Langkawi is also easily accessible by ferry from neighbouring Satun (Thailand). This journey takes about 30 minutes.
The North-South Expressway - from Kuala Lumpur to Perlis - is a five-hour journey, after which you have to board a ferry to the island. Buses, taxis and rent-a-car services are easily available from all city centres on the mainland.
Rail services operate from Kuala Lumpur to Alor Star daily. From Alor Star, it is a short taxi ride to the ferry terminal at Kuala Kedah.
Public transport in Langkawi is largely provided by taxis. However as taxis here can be expensive, it is best to seek the assistance of the resort concierge to arrange bookings and fares with the taxi drivers. Tanjung Rhu Resort also provides self-drive Rovers, chauffeur-driven limousines, and van shuttle services for guests.
