My friend, Marge,
and I have had many discussions over the past few years on our beliefs, how we
came by them, how they have and continue to affect us, what we become because
of what we believe and now, finally, to question them. Our beliefs are simply a model by which our
ancestors have lived for centuries and have been passed on to us as a way to
conduct our lives. Being born a girl, I
was given a set of rules by which to live different from that of my brothers. I was supposed to enjoy wearing dresses and
make-up and to want children, a husband and take care of the house and
family. I was to be a heterosexual
Christian, a democrat, seen but not heard, American, well educated, clean
(after all, cleanliness is next to Godliness), and a host of other things which
may or may not fit me. These beliefs
shaped my life and made me into a fearful, inhibited, shy and angry person who
needed alcohol as a means to escape and feel free from all the rules procured
by generations before me. For me it was
just too difficult to live within the confines of the family paradigm without
finding a way to flee from it if even for just a little while. I did not fit the mold of the family and,
because of that, I felt as if I were somehow not whole, not worthy and not good
enough. This is not to blame my
ancestors for instilling what they felt were fine structures by which to raise
a child, but just to note what the consequences are when anyone of us continues
to live in a system that no longer fits who we are. Now that I am more aware of my life, I can
allow myself to shed some of the rules by which I grew in order to form my own
life in my own way. But it is
interesting to me how we must first go through the ritual of trying to conform
before something inside of us says, “That’s not me.” When we become so uncomfortable with whom we
are that we either have to shift or allow our spirit to die, then we begin the
questioning. There is a wonderful saying
by Buddha which says “Believe nothing, no matter where you read it, or who
said it, no matter if I have said it, unless it agrees with your own reason and
your own common sense.” One of the most
difficult things I have ever done in my life was to reject many of the precepts
that were taught to me in my youth. I
needed, for my spirit and growth, to move beyond the mores of my ancestors, to
question whether or not those beliefs were MY beliefs or if I were simply
following because it was easier to do so.
Could I challenge my families’ tenets and still be accepted? Who was I if not those things I grew up
believing myself to be? Questioning can
bring confusion, a churning of emotions, anger from those who raised us, and
eventually, freedom. When something “agrees
with your own reason and your own common sense” every sense inside of you feels relief as if a weight has been lifted
from your heart. An inner “aaahhh” will
breathe through you and a new assuredness will fill your spirit with renewed
life. The courage that it takes to break
the tethers of our past is extraordinary and emancipating. The ancient Greeks believed that those who
choose to remember, learn the purpose of their existence and thus recall the
energies of the universe, the cycles of life and the way to live in the world
are liberated from their past. The one
way that I know to liberate myself is to question the past and in so doing
remember who I am in order to move forward into my purpose. Perhaps this is my purpose – to free myself
of the shackles of that which no longer serves my direction and longing of my spirit. Freedom in the form of lifting out the
cobwebs and fog in order to move closer to my deepest longings is no longer a
desire. It has become a way of life and
a mission. Question everything! Even the Buddha!
The View From Here

By all accounts 2008 looks to be a
challenging year. Those accounts from
economic analysts, astrologers and Mayan calendar enthusiasts alike, all concur
with forecasts of “corrections”, downturns and difficulty; but not without
reason and not without opportunity or reward.
Here’s the deal: Jupiter has just entered Capricorn for the
first time in twelve years. Saturn has
been in the very serious sign of Virgo these last few months and will remain so
for the next two years. Pluto is poised
to move from Sagittarius into Capricorn in just a few weeks.
Jupiter is the planet of expansion
and opportunity. Capricorn is the sign
of authority and administration.
Generally speaking these two are opposites: Jupiter likes the freedom to
explore new territory while Capricorn likes to enforce the boundaries of known
territory. So on a bad day these very
different energies will struggle against each other, producing the conflict of
expansion vs. limitation. On a good day they
will get along together, creating solid and effective opportunities. Objective, reality-driven plans, observations
and activities are a great use of Jupiter in Capricorn this year.
Saturn is the planet of law and
enforcement. He rules Capricorn, so the
description above regarding this sign can be applied to Saturn. Virgo is the sign of service and
correctness. These energies are very
similar and generally get along well together.
On a good day they will put their heads together to be as effectively
productive as possible. On a bad day
things will get bogged down in red tape, trouble-shooting, too much attention
to detail and disputes over who’s in charge.
Use this placement to get down to business and get things done in the
next two years.
Pluto is the planet of power and
intensity. In Capricorn, the elements of
position and control come strongly into focus.
These two energies together give way to empowerment: seizing the day and
doing what needs to be done, often after years of postponement. On the down side, Pluto in Capricorn can
express as tyranny, dictatorship and power plays. We have six or seven years to come to terms
with this and use it well, hopefully to empower ourselves and others without
collateral damage.
All of these key planetary
placements point to frustration and conflict, but also measured and rewarding
progress. The themes are integrity,
disciplined persistence and reward for work well done. Last year the focus was on dreams, expansion
and creativity. This year it’s all about
reality and application. It’s time to do
what we can to make those dreams come true.

Shattuckite

I never cease to be
amazed that when I choose a stone to write about in the newsletter it
corresponds to the article I write on the front page. Shattuckite is a stone that is not well known
but is coming into prominence in my healing room. It assists in shaping one’s reality, giving
clarity to thinking and subsequent communication of those thoughts. It allows us the freedom of our new thoughts
and ideas, bringing them to fruition by breaking past life karma and chains of
beliefs which have hampered our growth.
It sharpens intuitive powers promoting inner strength and courage to
deal with new situations and change.
Shattuckite assists us in remembering our Spiritual nature in order to
propel us forward towards our individual inner truths. It can support us in our efforts to channel
and/or do automatic writing while at the same time aiding us in processing
large quantities of information.
Shattuckite is a valuable friend in this time of change and paradigm
shift.

There’s a New Healing School In Town!!

School of Integrated Energy Healing
I am honored and
pleased to announce the dawning of a new and exciting energy healing school
right here in Milwaukee. A one of its
kind institution, The Free Spirit School of Integrated Energy Healing (FSS)
will make its debut in February of 2008.
What makes this school so unique is its diverse curriculum which will
guide students through a year and a half program designed to instill the basics
of energy healing together with stones, energy anatomy and inner focus. There is no other energy healing school in
the United States that combines these elements into one course of study. After teaching crystal healing for the past
15 years, I have noticed that combining inner focus with knowledge of the
energetic anatomy system assists people in more rapid healing on all levels –
spiritual, mental, emotional and physical.
At FSS our goal is to use all of the modalities we teach to provide a
natural, non-intrusive means by which to aid in the unfolding of one’s body,
mind and spirit.
The Free Spirit
School of Integrated Energy Healing is a multidisciplinary approach to the
development of healing practices.
Practitioners have the opportunity to experience integrated healing
tools and develop a stronger connection to personal mind-body-spirit
practices. Classes are designed to
assist each student in the deeper understanding of their own mystery of life
while at the same time giving practical information that can be used in daily
living. Our unique curriculum will aid
in developing conscientious and skilled practitioners who will make a change in
the world.
Joining me at FSS
will be Rose Koremenos and Sonya Farrell.
Rose has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing from Marquette
University and brings 25 years of experience as an RN and energy anatomy
specialist. In her extended healing
practice she teaches clients how to use their own inner mechanisms for
healing. With amazing sensitivity, Rose
will teach you how to access and develop your own sense of healership.
Sonya has a Master
of Social Work Degree from Simmons College in Boston, MA and spent seven years
as a clinical social worker in the Greater Boston area. Since 1994, she has been dedicated to
applying integrative therapies as a resource for individuals facing multiple
psycho-social stressors. In 2004 Sonya
opened her own energy healing practice in Shorewood, WI. For more information about the FSS staff

School Program
Description
The Free Spirit
School of Integrated Energy Healing curriculum is divided into three modules of
four weekends each consisting of Saturday and Sunday classes for a total of 64
hours per module.
First Module –
Technique
The first module
emphasizes the basics of energy healing.
You will learn many different modalities that will assist you in
deepening your understanding and practical application of energy healing. By the time you finish the fourth weekend,
you will have the necessary tools for conducting and energy healing session.
Second Module – Body
Mechanics
The second module
highlights physiology and anatomy as they apply to energy healing. You will attain knowledge about the energy
systems of the body and how to detect, through subtle sense perception, energy
blockages. You will be taught how to
work energetically to enliven the physical body on all layers of the energy
field.
Third Module – Inner
Focus
The third module
emphasizes the developmental aspects of our lives. You will explore the five stages of childhood
development based on the teachings of Jung, Reisch and other theorists. We will integrate energy healing into the
understanding of individual evolution in order to assist each student in their
own unfolding. This is a very intimate
look at healing and personal growth.
By the end of the
program, you will have a greater understanding of your abilities to do healing
work and a well rounded training for both a professional practice and your own
personal healing.
