| How to Complete a Lab in Mrs. Luna’s Class
1. In order to pass this class and qualify to take the June 2005 Earth Science Regents, you must complete 1200 minutes of Lab. All labs must be passing with a grade of 65. We will complete 30 to 50 labs in one school year. 2. You will receive your lab usually the day before we complete the experiment in class. You will be required to read the lab. Make sure you become familiar with lab by reading the procedure and completing all of the vocabulary that accompanies each lab. 3. Make sure on the day of the lab you have the following materials: Ø Pen Ø Pencil Ø Calculator Ø ESRT Ø Colored Pencils
4. When you receive your lab, fill in the following information: q Name q Date q Period q Title of Lab q Lab # q Name of Members in your Lab Group q Due Date 5. During each lab you will work with several of your classmates with a lab group. Here you will collect the data need for each lab. You will not work together to answer the Discussion and Conclusion Questions. 6. When you have completed collecting your data. Please sit at your desk, and quietly begin answering your discussion and conclusions questions. You may not work together with a group to answer these questions. You are to complete this section of the lab on your own. Answer all questions using complete sentences. If you are having difficulty answering some of the questions, first look through your notes and pre-lab reading material. Usually you will be able to find some answers here. You will also have an opportunity on the day following the lab to ask me questions about the lab, during our Lab Discussion Period. If you have further difficulty, please see me after school. 7. PLEASE NOTE: I WILL NOT ACCEPT CHEATING OF ANY KIND. UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES, DO NOT COPY SOMEONE ELSES LAB. IF YOU ARE COUGHT CHEATING, YOU WILL RECEIVE A ZERO ON THE LAB AND YOU WILL LOOSE THE OPPORTUNITY TO MAKE THIS LAB UP. THE FOLLOWING PEOPLE WILL BE CONTACTED IF THIS SHOULD OCCUR: 1. PARENT(S) 2. MR. How to Hand in Your Lab 1. You lab must be neat. If it is sloppy you will be re-doing the lab again
2. Make sure your lab has a cover stapled to the front page of the lab. You lab cover is to be in white photocopy or printer paper.
Do not submit a lab with cover made from loose-leaf or construction paper.
Your lab cover does not need a graphic; just follow the template provided on page three.
If you wish, you may photocopy the template and print the information need or you may type and print out your own copy.
3. Before you hand in a lab, make sure the following is completed: ü Vocabulary is defined and written in compete sentences. ü All data is collected, graphs and charts have been neatly completed. ü All mathematical computations are complete and all work is shown. ü The proper units have been assigned to each measurement. ü Discussion and Conclusion questions have been answered in complete sentences. ü You cover has been stapled to your lab.
4. You will have one week to complete a lab. All labs are due on Friday at the beginning of class. If you lab is handed in late, you will receive 5pt for everyday late.
5. You will receive you graded labs back to you on Friday. You will have the weekend to correct your labs; all corrected labs are due back on MONDAY! If it is not received back on Monday, your correction will be invalid and your grade will stay the same. You will also loose the opportunity to re-correct your labs.
