"Come on Jade! You're going to be late...again." A voice yelled up the stairs as Jade scrambled to get her homework done before movie night began.

Once again, Jade's mother was out 'working late' on a case..which meant she was with one of her young associates. If only her dad knew what a lying bitch his wife was. A sigh escaped Jade's lips as she scratched down one more formula and slammed the book shut. "I'm coming!" She yelled toward her open door.

An excited voice squealed, "Yay!" and the sound of feet running down stairs could be heard as Jade grabbed her stuffed animal and slipped the plushy slippers on her bare feet. Skipping down the stairs, Jade's ponytail bobbed behind her as her dark eyes searched for her dad and younger brother.

Small yippish barks echoed through the room as Pepper, their Golden Retriever skidded on the hard wood floors. Peeking around the corners, Jade looked around again. "Hellooo? Dad..Nerd Face?" Pursing her lips, she spun around just in time to be thoroughly scared by her fourteen year old brother.

"Blooga!" Luka waved his hands around and made God-awful sounds in Jade's face.

Jade's eyes widened as she shreiked and thwapped her brother in the head. "Damnit, Nerd." She glowered at her twin brother and huffed some. "Where's dad?"

"How should I know? He was just here..." A satisfied smirk crossed Luka's face as he refrained from laughing at his sister's reaction.

"Hmm." Jade looked around again, she could feel a gust of wind come from the kitchen, so like any normal curious girl..she went to check it out.

Small skidding noises came from her slippers sliding across the newly polished floors as she rounded the corner by the kitchen table. Her father was hovered over the kitchen sink and Jade ran over to his side and shook him lightly.

"Daddy? Daddy, are you okay?" Genuine concern filled her eyes as she looked over his body to the open back door and their dog barking relentlessly at something.

All of a sudden, he stood up with a pitcher of some glowing Kool-Ade like drink. "What?!" He had been startled, having kind of slipped into a daze.

"Jade, honey I'm fine." When he realized what happened, he smiled and pulled his daughter to him in a hug.
