MUSIC

As the rightful heirs to Green Day and Blink-182, Sum 41 have perfectly blended punk, pop, skateboarding and just the right amount of harmless pranks to become the J.D. band of a Jackass nation. It also helps that their riffs are rough yet melodic and their live shows overflow with kinetic energy. The boys all grew up in Ajax, a suburb of Ontario, Canada. After playing in rival bands, Deryck Whibley (Bizzy D), Dave Baksh (Brown Sound), Steve Jocz, and Cone McCaslin (Cone), joined forces and christened themselves Sum 41 - because it was the 41st day of the summer before their senior year of high school. Island Records signed Sum 41 in 1999 and released an EP entitled Half Hour of Power. After touring with the likes of Blink-182, the Offspring and Social Distortion, the band released their multi-platinum debut, All Killer No Filler, in 2001. The album spawned three hits, “Fat Lip,” “Motivation” and “In Too Deep.” The boys toured constantly in 2001 and became MTV staples with their hilarious videos. They also appeared on the soundtracks to American Pie 2 and Spider-man. In 2003, they continued the tradition with Does This Look Infected?
