since we're a pretty small college, we have stricter rules than our neighboring schools. everybody disregards these rules because they are relatively easy to break. not the case anymore apparently. the next thing that teri tells me is that visitation is being strictly enforced. in layman's terms, if you're caught with a member of the opposite sex in your room after 12am on weeknights and 2am on the weekends, you're going to get written up. this really pisses me off. first of all, i live in the upperclass dorm, meaning everyone who lives here is between the ages of 19 and 21. i really don't think that there should be a curfew. if you want to have your boyfriend sleep over with you, then that should be okay as long as they are signed in (all colleges require sign in because of fire codes). which leads me to my next point. kicking the guys out at midnight is NOT going to stop people from having sex. people have sex at all times of the day; it is not an activity that's restricted to very late at night. people are going to have sex at 2pm, 6pm, and 10am, just the same as they would at midnight or later.
teri's final comment was that we weren't allowed to light inscense in the rooms anymore. i'm not a big fan of inscense, but this pissed me off too. in our building, people can smoke cigarettes, cigars, and anything else in the rooms. why can't they light inscense? what's the big deal? you can just as easily cause a fire with a cigarette if you're not careful. you can set anything on fire if you're not careful.
i really and truly thought that i was an adult and in college. i didn't know that i was still in kindergarten and needed thousands of silly pointless rules to live by. but sadly, i was mistaken. now if you'll excuse me, i'm going to grab my blanky and my binky, and watch lizzie mcguire on TV. hey, if i'm being treated like a child, i have every right acting like one!
UPDATE: i talked to my friend dot at rehearsal and she was telling me about the confiscation of her hot plate...the RA who took it wouldn't let her take it back until her boyfriend came to pick it up. he wasn't allowed to have the hot plate until he was at the exit...i doubt if a fire could have been set with an unplugged hot plate.
