About God's Storehouse

God's Storehouse is a non-profit ministry based in Alamogordo, NM whose mission is to "work together to help those in need." Currently we accept any contributions and/or donations and match those articles with needs in local ministries and the community. Volunteer workers' needs are met when they assist in the process of packing and sorting. Presently we are based out of four 10x20 storage units which we are quickly outgrowing. Donated items are separated according to categories such as men's, women's, and children's clothing, coats and sweaters, bedding, household items, and shoes. After items are sorted, they are repacked in 30 count egg boxes, which were chosen for thier uniform size and easy handling. Boxes not distributed locally are delivered to missions in places such as El Paso, Texas, Lybrook, New Mexico, Tulsa, Oklahoma, and White River, South Dakota. God's Storehouse works with a variety of denominations and non-denominational organizations. We are always on the look out for new ministries in need of items and willing to join forces with us in the distribution of donations to those in need. Our mission is to teach people to work for what they recieve so that they appreciate thier blessing and pass on that blessing to others. The proverb "Give a man a fish, feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish, feed him for a lifetime" is quite apt for what we are trying to do. We wish to help missionaries so that they can have the tools they need to draw people in and minister to them by meeting thier needs of clothing, food, or any other available donated items. In the future, God's Storehouse hopes to be a training center to teach skills to low-income individuals so that they will be enable to support thier families by means other than welfare and charity to feed and cloth thier families.

God's Storehouse officially began in 1996 working out of Brenda's garage. In our first year, we took in roughly 75 boxes of clothing and other items, a few items of furniture, and one vehicle. We have grown rapidly in the last few years, expanding into four overflowing storage units and dealing with 8,000 pounds of produce, over 3,250 boxes of clothes, and well over 300 items of furniture and appliances in 2002 alone. What started as a small organization managable for one person has grown to include over 30 volunteers and hundreds of volunteer hours. Each year we have more than doubled in volume and are expecting the same increases in years to come.

In the future, it is our goal to bring together community helps organizations to cooridinate such endevors as a community food band and community clothes closet.
