Post political life

When Vietnam invaded in 1979 it was to be the beginning of the end to Pol Pot’s regime in Cambodia. With the Khmer’s army in complete disarray it took Vietnam no less then 10 days to be within shelling range of the Capital. Pol Pot seeing that he could not beat back the Vietnam army fled to China where he was offered asylum.  Pol Pot officially retired in 1985, but  continued to control his guerrillas, the strongest antigovernment force, in western jungle areas of Cambodia, until factional collapse shortly before his death on April 15, 1998.

Pol Pot was never tried for his crimes against the Cambodian People and died a free man. None of the other Democratic Republic officials were tried because of lack of evidence and lack of cooperation by the Cambodian People.
