An offer by Playbill

March 8, 2003, Sunday

Although I am a subscriber to both Playbill.com and Ticketmaster.com, I had never seen any discounts or special offers for "Shanghai Moon" in the 2 or so months that I kept an eye out for them while 'Shanghai Moon' was playing in the Village from Jan 16, 2003 to March 9, 2003.

In the last week of its run, when I had already seen it 5 times, Lady Sylvia and her lines were still calling me.

It was then that I was checking my e-mail when I came across this offer from playbill.com:

Shanghai Moon

Off-Broadway

Offer available from 03 Mar 2003 to 09 Mar 2003

SHANGHAI MOON, written by and starring Charles Busch (playwright of "The Tale of the Allergist's Wife") and B.D.Wong -> Daily News cheers, "Engaging, often hilarious spoof."

The NY Times applauds, "Immensely appealing -- more twists in 90 minutes than a year's worth of "All My Children."

USA Today, three out of four stars raves, "you'll find amusement in Busch's archly over-the-top delivery."

Star-Ledger proclaims, "- zany, clever -- Busch with expert comic timing and undeniable star presence -- a misleading lady of great authority and screwy charm."

Playbill Club Members can bask in Shanghai Moon at the Greenwich House Theatre, 27 Barrow Street, off Seventh Avenue South, NYC.

Club Members can save 20% off $45 tickets, by calling Telecharge.com at 212 - 947-8844 and mentioning code SMPBC28. Tickets can also be purchased online at http://www.broadwayoffers.com/index.pl?Dcode=SMPBC28&Source=000.

For my sixth time, I got 20 percent off, my total coming to $34.50 (instead of the usual $51.50), after the various oppressive taxes and levies were charged by telecharge.com. Not bad for a seat 7 rows from the stage, at F 15, way on the left, but not TOO MUCH on the left, for the ghostly hour of 10 pm on a Saturday March 8, 2003.

I was initially up for D-18, which is WAY WAY to the left, so that meant I would miss many of Lady Sylvia's faces if she faced the right part of the audience. I was almost signing up for that seat, but then I decided to try again. That was when I got an offer for F-15, a seat at a much better location than D-18, and I grabbed F-15 right away.
