Begin by selecting one of the land biomes listed below:

  • Tropical desert
  • Temperate desert
  • Polar (cold) desert
  • Tropical grassland (savanna)
  • Temperate grassland
  • Polar grassland (arctic tundra)
  • Tropical rain forest
  • Tropical deciduous forest
  • Tropical scrub forest
  • Temperate deciduous forest
  • Evergreen coniferous forest (taiga/ boreal forest)

Investigate the websites listed in the resource section. Find and record the following, which MUST be included in your brochure:

  • Description and information on your specific biome
  • The climate (average long-term precipitation and temperature)
  • Plant life (include examples)
  • Animal life (include examples)
  • Biome location (continents, latitude, altitude, etc...)
  • Find and save at least 4 images
  • Something unique about your biome
  • Why a visitor would want to come to your biome

Use Microsoft Word to create the brochure (there is a brochure template that can be used to help). The brochure MUST be tri-fold design, with all 6 surfaces used. Design and layout is important, so be sure to consider them carefully.

Points to consider for good design and layout include:

  • Reserve the front surface for the brochure title and an image which is appropriate. Minimal information should be listed here.
  • Save the back surface for Extreme Global Travels contact information (make this up yourself) and place your name, period and biome type at the very bottom.
  • Arrange the interior surfaces of the brochure so that they are spacially appealing. Don't clump information at the tops and leave the bottom blank (this is a design no-no!).

Helpful suggestions

  • Remember to SAVE your brochure... and save it often. When you first get your template go immediately to File-Save As. Name and save your file in the appropriate location so that it is safe.
  • Use text boxes for both text and images. It is easier to move them around spacially for design and layout.
