This year is the 100th anniversary of the first stage production of Peter Pan. As I've been in love with this character and the Neverland since I can remember, I decided to give vent to the muses' telling me I should write something about the boy who refused to grow up. And here it is. A poem (and please keep in mind I don't claim to be a poet) and a little story. I hope you enjoy them. Also, for those of you who haven't read the actual book or any of Barrie's other Peter-centric stories, go here. They have The Little White Bird, the novel in which the character was first introduced, and also Peter Pan, of course, and Peter Pan in Kensington Gardens.

Just because I want to go to Neverland
Doesn't mean I'm still a child
And longing to fly doesn't make you free
The crocodile couldn't make time stand still for James Hook
And I know nothing will for me

Peter is perfect and heartless
And Neverland darker than it seems
A place of dreams and nightmares

If happy thoughts keep you in the air
What makes you fall?
No unhappy thoughts here
Where nothing's real

And the Neverland makes you forget
