Joe Flegel’s Biography
Hello classmates. I was born in Hinsdale, Illinois and raised in Downers Grove, Illinois. At the age of 17, I enlisted in the Navy as a Submarine Electronics Technician. My field of expertise was in Navigation Electronics. I enjoyed traveling around the world and experiencing new cultures and adventures.
After 22 years of service, I retired from the Navy and accepted a job as a Training Analyst in Washington D.C. Three years later I entered Civil Service as a Training Specialist. I thoroughly like working with Navy personnel and I am able to give back some of the great training and experiences I have enjoyed through out my Naval service.
I am currently a Supervisory Training Specialist at TRIDENT Training Facility (TTF), Bangor, Silverdale, WA. At the training facility, we manage and train U.S. Navy Submarine personnel in the operation and maintenance of submarine equipment, systems and subsystems. I run the Instructional Standards Division and I have extensive experience in the instructional design and evaluation process. Within the Instructional Standards Division, I run the Instructor Training Branch, In-Service Training and Evaluation Branch, and the Training Technology Branch. We teach, manage and life cycle about 350 courses of instruction at the training facility.
I love the outdoors in this part of the country. I enjoy puttering in my garage, fishing, crabbing, shrimping, hiking, gardening, golf, and photography. Well,...... I used to do all of that to keep me busy. This program has taken the place of all of that for now!
