Soundtrack to the Summer

With the recent booming popularity of pop-punk acts, it seems that the band Greyfield has emerged on the scene at just the right time. With questionable originality (I don't want to sound too heartless) and typical lyrics of girls and breakups, this band has everything you'd expect from such an act. Though the band is only a little over a year old, these Jacksonville natives have already begun to receive some recognition. Their second release and first full-length, The Soundtrack To Summer, recently made its way into my home stereo. As I listened to them, random bands just began to run through my head like....Movie Life? Starting Line? New Found Glory? Sugar Cult? I don't know why, I mean Greyfield doesn't sound like any of those typical pop punk bands.do they? I could only imagine being at one of their shows. Thoughts of junior high girls with their Good Charlotte shirts, studded bracelets and vast array of "punky" buttons started fill my head. Quickly I shut off the stereo in fear of bleeding from the ears (If you cant tell, I'm not really much of the pop punk fan myself). The next day while I was driving in my car, I popped the album in for one last chance. There I found myself, driving down the road in the perfect 70 degree, sunny spring weather. And as I sat there, listening to The Soundtrack To Summer, I realized that the album was just that. A good CD to listen to on one of those warm summer days when you're just hangin’ around outside with your friends...in other words, when you're not paying too much attention to the music. So, I guess if you dig pop punk, go out on a nice sunny day, pick up some of your pals and and drive out on the open road listening to this album....just not too many times.
