During the Second Sundering, the Holy Lands fell to the demon hordes and the Ahl-I-Batin died or fled to foreign lands. Many settled in the southern Spain and Portugal and helped to establish Andalucia and Valencia as the new centers of Islamic culture. In the 13th century, northern Spain and France began a campaign to cleanse the area of all non-Christian influence. Moorish culture persisted, however, and the Subtle Ones spent centuries hiding their practices from the Catholic Church. As Spanish influence spread throughout the world, the Subtle ones followed, establishing bases in the Americas, Africa, and the Pacific.Modern Subtle Ones are distrusted as spies, thieves, and assassins by other Paradigms and rightly so. Many members have discarded their Paradigm’s emphasis on a harmonious blending of poetry, philosophy, spirituality, science, and the arts for pure material gains. The tools of their crafts still reflect the Subtle One’s Moorish ancestry: a unique blend of Christian, Jewish, and Arabic mystical traditions.
Blessings & Blights: Modern Subtle Ones are creatures of solitude and tend to drift though society, building few connections in the mage or mundane world. They all start with two in Arcane and are unable to buy Contacts or Influence.
