A little bit about me. my name is dorothy and I love animals and music. I got my first dog when i was about 2, she was a black lab named Chipper, and she followed me everywhere as i grew up, protecting me when I needed it and getting me in trouble for stealing steaks off people's bar b ques in the summer. We used to swim across Steel lake and when I got tired, I would grab hold of her tail and she would pull me the rest of the way. She never got tired! Not Chipper. Then when I was about 8 years old, I had become fixated with the Lassie show and collies.. I would go get the neighbor's collie and bring him over to watch it with me. So my Mom went out and got me a collie pup of my own for my birthday. I named her Lassie. Lassie was killed at the age of 11 months on christmas day in 1969 by a car. It is a scene I will never for get and do not particularly like christmas to this day. As i turned away from the scene, I saw my dog going up on a cloud, waving goodbye to me. I knew she was gone. No one had to tell me that. It was an awful, horrible thing. The poor woman who had hit her had just lost a child to cancer. She sat there in the middle of the road, holding and rocking my dog, just cradling her, wishing her back to life. it was horrible. I know I will see Lassie again one day. Well then my Mom went out and got me another collie pup, and I named her Princess. My Dad put up a fence and she was not allowed out of that fence. For some reason, my lab, Chipper, went everywhere with me and escaped ever being struck by a car. That dog ended up saving me from being attacked by a man at age 14 as I walked home, I had cut through some woods. He grabbed me from behind.. Well, Chipper took care of him! Chipper died of old age in 1975, she was 2 years younger than me.

I showed Princess, still have all her ribbons and stuff she won. My mom bred her, she had five litters of pups. The first litter she had on my bed at 2 in the morning. She produced beautiful pups, with the male collie I used to bring home. Her last litter, just one big male pup was stillborn. That was a tough thing to go through for us and for Princess, so my Mom had her spayed. Princess lived to the age of 15, when she was taken by parvo virus. I didn't own any dogs for a while, I didn't recover very well from losing a dog. Then one day in 1981 I had dropped by the Kent animal shelter and came across this little chocolate lab pup. He put his paw through the pen so I could hold it. So we sat there for a while like that, and I didnt want to leave him. So I went home and told my Mom about him. The next morning, I awoke to this animal lying on my back with a paw around me...it was him! My mom had went down to "just look" and brought him home. He remembered me! I named him Rusty because of his color, and he got a hot romance going with a little aussie across the street, Jenny. They were in love! When they wernt out romping and lying and playing together, they would be watching eachother through the window as our yards faced eachother. Although Rusty was neutered and Jenny was spayed, those two dogs didnt seem to know that :) Then in 1982, I went on vacation to visit with my Dad in california and Rusty was killed by a speeding car. Poor Jenny saw it happen and she was never the same. Our house, at that time, had a huge corner on the side of it and cars loved to come flying around it at 60 MPH. I asked the city for a stop sign just at that corner and was told no. So i went out there in the middle of the night and painted the most official looking stop sign i could on the ground. Everyone stopped...even police cars :0). Had there been a stop sign to slow those cars down, Rusty would be alive today. he would be 13 years old.

When my son was about 6 years old, he found a calico cat. Someone had shot her with what looked to be a .22. She had a bullet wound to her left rear leg. Thank God it missed anything vital and she healed up nicley and has owned us ever since. We named her miss kitten and she is still with us today, I think she is about 11 years old now. I had promised my son I would get him a golden retriever pup when we got a house with a fenced in yard. I bought the house in 1999 and we got Yolfie, which means beautiful dog in swedish (yes, im half swede). Somehow, she ended up being MY dog. I was going to show her, but found out when she was a pup that she was born with cataracts and shoulder dysplasia. She's AKC registered, yolfies golden magic is her registered name, but I now believe she was bred by a 'backyard" breeder. blood lines were not checked and soforth. I did let him know about her, and he says none of the other 5 pups have the same thing, but somehow I doubt that. He also didn't have her checked out by a vet and I wasnt aware of that. But that's O.K. When its time, she will have her shoulder fixed and her cataracts removed. She's so beautiful. I didnt want to cause her any more distress by traveling with her and showing her. So she's my lap dog...at 100 pounds! She is a very good dog and loves to please. I taught her a command where if someone left the gate open and she got out, and i spoke this command, she would stop and go down on her tummy. I have never had to use that command, she has gotten out as kids have left gates open, but she KNOWS I dont want her out of the yard and will come directly to the door. She's such a good girl..and smart! I came home from work one night recently here and found myself locked out of my house. I have a burglar bar on my slider, there is no way to access my house with that bar in place. So I called my goldy over and told her to jump up. She did , and knocked the bar up a bit so I could open the door a couple of inches. I pointed to the burglar bar and told her to jump again...She gauged that bar, staring at it intently for a second, then she jumped, knocked the bar up and out of place with her paw and let me in the house...what a smart girl! She got a steak for that one! She loves to please. She is my pal, and I dont know what I would do without her. She is looking up at me blinking at me with those beautiful eyes of hers as I type this.

I also am an aspiring writer. I have 3 books Iam working on, 2 of which are childrens books. I love to read too but dont have the time for it anymore. I was always reading something. I also would like to meet Stephen King. I dont read much of his work anymore but love the way he thinks! I did meet Greg Olsen, the guy who wrote the book on the tylenol killings that took place in auburn in the 80's. Nice guy! And he signed my book. I had actually gone in Freddies to buy the book not knowing he was doing a book signing there and there he was!

i also love music. I wasn't born with any particular talent in that area, except I do write peotry and have had 2 poems published. I played the clarinet in high school and never learned how to read music. But i know i have memorized alot of songs! my favorite is rock and roll...the old stuff and i also like alot of the new....no rap or country of jazz. Iam always listening to something. i have alot of the oldies, like Sammy johns, and his "chevy van" song. And Iam always on the lookout for more songs like that. But i also like ted nugent, aerosmith...and new ones like alanis morissette, Michelle Branch, Avril Lavigne. Iam always on the lookout for those old 70's songs though. Ones i grew up on.
