LuthWicca
- I was born and raised Lutheran. I was baptized Lutheran and confirmed the same. I have been a big supporter of the Lutheran church. I like that I can worship on my own, but I can still go to church and pray. My church is pretty, that's one reason I love going so much. Lately that's been one of the main reasons of going. My church changed its' tune a few years ago when along with a new pastor we got younger people who decided to change how a lot of the church was run. I didn't like it. I mean, it was just BAM without any other opinions from the rest of the congregation. We stopped seeing members I'd grown up with. I still went to church. Mostly for my own ties to God and not much of anything the church was doing. My mom fell sick and no one really seemed to care that she stopped coming. She's much better now and still no one seems to care that she's back. I developed this feeling that it was every man for themselves unless you were in the
- We also hired a new Youth Director a few years ago. He's pretty cool. But the program focuses more on the future youth group. He came my sophomore year I beleive and I never felt like he truely care about what happened to us. He planned things for us to do. These events (because they only happened every few weeks, if months), usually revovled around raising money or something having to do with a mission trip. Now we all like doing service projects, but when that's all you seem to do, it gets boring. We wanted to do what the junior high kids were doing- playing frisbee, having lock-ins, going camping and skiing and just in general bonding more and having some place to go and have fun, while still maybe doing some service projects here and there.
- Wow, I'm ranting. Basically that's what lead me to stray a little from the church.
- I've always felt that I've had magical powers. Some things never change. So I started studying Wicca . I've been studying Wicca for two years.
- The more I learned the more I realized how many similarities are in Wicca and Lutheran religions. They seem different when done in their own places, but the basic concept is the same. For example certain objects are the same. There is an altar, candles, food and wine, and a large book that is read from when praying/casting spell/blessing the food. There is also always a certain way things need to be done. For example, in the Lutheran church the way the food is prepared for communion is very touchy. The pastor must bless the bread and the wine and it must be done that day or else it will not be holy. Magic must be done quickly or the energy will be lost. Luthreran- Once communion is over, the leftover wine is poured back into a sacred container and kept there until next time. In Wicca a used/spent candle (let's say) may be buried in the ground to release the energy back into the ground. Make sense?
- It was hard transitioning from just Lutheranism into looking at both religions with respect and awe. At times I felt that I was betraying my Lutheran childhood by thinking about things in a more magical way. I really felt strongly about Wicca and couldn't just let it go because of my upbringing. So I am now trying to incorporate both religions into my life.
