"Internet Relay Chat (IRC) Safety"
Internet Relay chat (IRC) is a method of communication in real time over the internet. When you type something on the window it gets immediately posted to the rest of the people currently tuned into your channel of conversation.
IRC will never be a safe place to chat. Even most chat rooms are never guaranteed to be safe inspite of all the filters.
The IRC is one of the most popular chat programs among netheads nowadays that one way or the other it will be hard to totally prevent a user from using it "Nick Imposters"
BE CAREFUL WITH YOUR PASSWORD.
People are currently conning users into giving away their NickServ passwords.
DON'T BE A SUCKER.
Do not give your password to ANYONE.
Not even an IRCOP.
Do NOT click on any links sent to you in private message from someone you do not know. Also, do not click on web addresses posted in channels from someone you don't know. These links can take you to pages that exploit weaknesses in your browser to install trojans or malware, and permit malicious individuals to use your computer for Denial of Service attacks and other illegal activity. The link can also be to pages that will try to install a "dialer" programs.
Do not give out your phone number, last name, address or any other information that may help a stranger locate you to ANY online friend until you are sure you can trust them.
What is cyber? writing stories to each other of a sexual nature in a chatroom, living out a fantasy or what ever turns them on.
Internet chat rooms can help people
with health problems.
Internet 'encourages false illness.
I came across this website and thought it was very interesting as it focuses on chatrooms and the cyber illnesses that are falsely displayed by them that like to seek the attention.
If you are genuinely ill the last place you would come is online and into chatrooms.
The online victim: this person uses Internet chat rooms and forums to allege that they've been the victim of rape, violence, harassment, abuse etc. The alleged crime is never reported to the authorities, for obvious reasons. The facelessness and anonymity of the Internet suits this type of attention seeker. Please click to read further.
"IRC Network Owners"
Be wary of them that are not serious about their networks they get it just to say "I have an irc network" it impresses females, but the stupid ones and they drain the users from networks who are serious and play with those users to their disappointment.
Then there are the networks who invest in their network spend major $$ or ££ to establish, maintain and run their networks and its these networks you should be chatting on.
"Meeting Online Friends in Real Life"
Be careful if you arrange a face-to-face meeting with another computer user. If a meeting is arranged, make the first one in a public place WITH LOTS OF PEOPLE ABOUT, and be sure to let someone know where you are going, in any case, why not bring a friend or two!
Please Be Careful!
Why not just keep it as online friendships? Remember - be wary if your friend online is pressing you to arrange a face to face meeting - that's suspicious!
"How to stay cool when someone is rude"
1.Ignore the person totally.
2.Don't even speak about that person to the others in the room.
3. Don't send rude messages back to the rude person unless you are ready for a flame war!
4. Remember, they want your attention.
5. Don't give it to them!
MY ADVICE IS BEWARE!
If you feel threaten, Report them to an IRCOP / or to the server help channel immediately.
Users of the Internet are encouraged to report potentially illegal material.
CHILD PORNOGRAPHY IS STRICTLY OUTLAWED, AND ANYONE OR ANY ENTITY FOUND TO BE DEALING IN SUCH WILL BE REPORTED TO THEIR HOME COUNTRYS' POLICE FORCE, WITH PROOF THAT THEY ARE ABUSING THE "PROTECTION OF CHILDREN" ACT OF 1996."
