Peer Helpers, what do they do? Well they help you, their peers, for one, but mostly the take pride in helping others. You 2003-2004 Peer helpers were hand selected from the hundreds that applied by the staff at Black Hawk Middle School by how their teacher saw them. If their teachers saw them as helpful well mannered students then they were in, most likely. If you are wondering who these privelaged students are then well you in luck. In eighth; Scott Bade, Amy Bonstell, Zach Church, Joanna Cofer, Laura Feldhaus, Tricia Flieger, Melissa Harrison, Lacey Laird, Kelsey Schenck, and Julie Wass. Then in seventh we have Kimmy McGrath, Sarah Owenby, Sam Pelts, and Samantha Walch. What exactly will these students do this year? Well they will spend their time doing things for you, such as, Red Ribbon Week, The Great American Smoke Out, and conventions. When asked why she became a Peer helper Amy Bonstell said, " to help other people at our school." She also said, " my favorite part about being a Peer helper would have to be Tan-Tara." Tan-Tara is a convention where peer helpers go to talk with other peer helpers from other schools. Last they learned about eating disorders and what to do about someone who might commit suicide. They sponsor those fun activites every year at the beginning that we love doing called Red Ribbon Week. They also sponsor The Great American Smoke Out, which is not as well known as Red Ribbon Week, which is a day where all smokers across America are supposed to stop smoking. Peer helpers, you may think, well why do we need them. But Peer helpers is a non profit organization whose only goal is to help you. So they're there and definately not sqaure. Who gunna call if you need help...PEER HELPERS! (Congratulations to those who made it!)
