The Baseball Titans captured the Kanto Invitational Tournament with a 12-6 victory over the Zama Trojans.  John Logue pitched a five-hitter including eight strikeouts to notch his ninth victory of the season.  With the scored tied at 3-all in the bottom of the fourth inning, the Titans broke the game open with consecutive hits from Steve Yoon, John Logue and Takuma Nakamoto that drove in five runs.  The Titans then added four more runs in the fifth capped by a bases-loaded triple from Chris Terai to seal the victory.  The Titans’ solid defense was also a key factor in the win as it displayed some defensive gems including a double play (Yoon-Ireton-Terai), a leaping catch of a hard liner at third (Tsujimoto), a fine throw from left field (Nakamoto) to nail a runner at home, and a double play off a fly ball at center (Endo) to third (Tsujimoto).

En route to the championship final, the Titans defeated the Yokota Panthers (12-3) and ASIJ JV (9-2).  John Logue took the win against Yokota while Yosuke Suzuki pitched a complete game against ASIJ JV.  Leading hitters for the Tournament were Steve Yoon (5-for-9), Alex Nomura (5-for10), Andy Warfield (4-for-9), and Chris Terai (4-for-10).

Titans Clinch League Championship! (May 4, 2004)

The Titans clinched the league championship at home with two victories against Kinnick.

For the first five innings in the first game, the Titans out-hit the Red Devils seven to none, but left eight runners stranded on base to keep the game in a scoreless tie.  Kinnick opened the scoring in the top of the sixth with three consecutive hits to take a 2-0 lead going into the last inning. With two outs in the bottom of the seventh, John Logue drilled a triple to right center to cut the Kinnick lead to one. Andy Warfield followed with a double driving home Logue to tie the game.  William Ireton then executed a perfect suicide squeeze to score Warfield for the winning run giving St. Mary’s a 3-2 “sayonara” victory.

In the second game, senior Yosuke Suzuki pitching in his last home game, shutout the Red Devils 4-0 to notch his fifth win of the season.  With the scored tied at zero-all in the bottom of the fifth, William Ireton doubled to center to drive in two runs. The Titans added two more runs after that to seal the victory.  Leading the Titan offensive were Steve Yoon and Andy Warfield with two hits each.

The two games were the last home games for the following seniors on the team: Takuma Nakamoto (co-captain),            Yosuke Suzuki (co-captain), Kosuke Jimbo, Alex Nomura, Chris Terai, Yuishiro Tsujimoto, and Andy Warfield.

May 7, 2003

The Kanto Plain Invitational will be held on May 14 and 15 at Camp Zama.  St. Mary's is seeded no.1 and will open against ASIJ JV at Rambler Field in Camp Zama.  If the team wins, they will play a second game in the afternoon against the winner of the Yokota-Kinnick game.  ASIJ, seeded second will be in the same bracket with Zama, Edgren and YIS.  The Championship Game is scheduled for Saturday, May 15 at 11:30 am.

Titans vs ASIJ  (May 1, 2004)

The Baseball Titans clinched at least a tie for the league championship when it beat the ASIJ Mustangs in two games over the weekend.  The Titans will capture the league title if it wins at least one game of a doubleheader against Kinnick on Tuesday, May 4.

In Saturday’s first game, the Titans squeezed by the Mustangs with a thrilling 5-4 victory.  Both teams played superbly as St. Mary’s freshman starting pitcher John Logue engaged the Mustang’s senior pitcher Ryan Butz in a pitching duel. The Titan fielders backed up their pitcher with a show of fine defensive plays: third baseman Yuishiro Tsujimoto turned a tough double play to thwart a scoring chance for the Mustangs; first baseman Chris Terai dove for an out to end an inning, and Alex Nomura executed a brilliant shoe-string catch at centerfield to keep the Mustangs at bay. Trailing 2-4 at the bottom of the sixth, the Titan bats exploded with four consecutive hits to take the lead for good at 5-4.  Takuma Nakamoto led off that inning with a single and went home on a double by John Logue. Chris Terai doubled to tie the game and Andy Warfield followed with a single to drive home the winning run.

In the second game, the Titans jumped to an early lead with a towering two-run homerun over leftfield by senior Takuma Nakamoto.  After struggling with his control in the second inning, senior pitcher Yosuke Suzuki finally found his range and kept the Mustang offense in check.  The Mustangs, however, threatened in the last inning as they cut the Titan lead to two runs, 9-7.  Freshman Steve Yoon, however, came in to relieve and retired the side in one-two-three fashion to conserve the victory for the Titans.  Chris Terai, Alex Nomura, and Will Ireton delivered the offensive firepower for St. Mary’s as all three delivered two hits each at three-at-bats.

Congratulations to all baseball players for their victories and for an excellent display of exciting baseball over the weekend!

Titans vs Yokota  (April 24, 2004)

The Baseball Titans split their doubleheader with Yokota over the weekend.  In the first game, the Titans trailed 2-5 going into the last inning but scored 6 runs to overcome the Yokota Panthers.  The Titans jumped to an early 2-1 lead until the fifth and sixth when the Panthers drove home 4 runs.  Titan pitcher John Logue however held on to earn the win.  Takuma Nakamoto drilled a double to left with bases loaded to tie the game in the 7th while Chris Terai was 1-for-4 while driving in the first two runs for St. Mary’s.

In the second game, the Titans managed to score only one run and lost 1-9.  Andy Warfield did well for the Titans getting two hits and scoring the lone run.

With the loss, the Titans are now 9-3 and will need to take two games against ASIJ on Saturday, 1st of May to clinch at least a tie for the league championship.

Titans vs Zama  (April 20, 2004)

The Titans had their win streak broken by the Zama Trojans as they dropped two games on Tuesday, 20th of April.  Zama raced to a 4-0 lead in the first inning but the Titans tied it up in the third.  Zama, however, erupted for ten runs in the next two innings to take the lead for good.  The Titans had a rally going in the sixth as they scored six runs ignited by Andy Warfield's two-run-scoring double.

In the second game, the Trojans showed their firepower with twelve hits and fourteen runs to rout the Titans 14-4.

Titans vs Yokota  (April 13, 2004)

The Titans defeated the Yokota Panthers, last year's defending Tournament Champions, in two games, 8-4 and 12-1.  After a shaky start in the first game, pitcher John Logue limited the Panthers to only one more run in the next six innings while striking out ten. Yosuke Suzuki went 2-for-2 at the plate while Alex Nomura and Yuishiro Tsujimoto both had two hits in four-at-bats.

In the second game, Yosuke Suzuki threw a four-hitter and held Yokota to one run as the Titans pounced on the Panthers' pitching to win, 12-1.  Yuishiro Tsujimoto was hot at the batter's box as he connected for three hits including three RBIs. Alex Nomura, Chris Terai and John Logue each had two hits.

Titans vs ASIJ  (April 10, 2004)

The Baseball Titans took two games from ASIJ over the weekend to extend their winning streak to six (6) games this season.  In the first game, Yosuke Suzuki kept ASIJ at bay limiting the Mustangs to only two runs on five hits to record his second win of the season. Freshman John Logue came in to relieve in the fifth inning and shutout the Mustangs for his first save. Third baseman Yuishiro Tsujimoto led the Titan offensive with two hits.   It was a tightly fought contest with ASIJ putting runners on base in every inning except the 6th only to be thwarted by the solid Titan defense. The game ended with a well-executed 6-4-3 double play from Takuma Nakamoto to William Ireton to Chris Terai.   Final score: 4-2.

The second game saw the Titans pounce on the ASIJ starter to score three runs right in the first inning.  The Titans never looked back and went on to win the game, 4-1.  John Logue struck out nine batters in five innings of work to register his third victory of the season.  Alex Nomura and Andy Warfield led the Titan attack with two hits each.

Titans vs. ASIJ JV (April 6, 2004)

Titans vs Kinnick  (March 16, 2004)

The Baseball Titans took two games from Kinnick, 11-2 and 18-5.  The first game was a tightly fought contest for the first three innings as the Titans were only nursing a one-run lead.  But the Titans erupted for nine runs in the next three innings capped by a solo homerun by Yosuke Suzuki to take the game away.  John Logue went 4-for-4 including 3 RBIs while Yosuke and Steve Yoon had three hits each.

In the second game, the Titans were trailing by one run at the end of the third inning but erupted for thirteen runs in the next to soundly defeat the Red Devils.  John Logue and Takuma Nakamoto hit back-to-back homeruns while Kosuke Jimbo also homered in the same inning in a display of Titan firepower. Chris Terai and Steve Yoon also followed with a homerun each of their own in the fourth and fifth innings respectively.  John Logue, again went four-for-four while Steve Yoon and Will Ireton each had three hits.

Titans vs Zama  (March 13, 2004)

The Titans started the 2004 season with two big wins against Zama, the defending league champions. In the first game, Yosuke Suzuki had a shutout going (10-0) until the fifth but gave up five runs. The Titans came back, however, with five runs at the bottom of the frame to finish off the game, 15-5.  Chris Terai and Alex Nomura, both went 3-for-4.

In the second game, the Titans just couldn't finish off the game in five innings, but went on to win comfortably, 14-5. Freshman pitcher John Logue got his first win while Yuishiro Tsujimoto had three hits and Steve Yoon went 2-for-2 with 4 RBIs.
