Star Light Night Stables - Call Me Kate

Call Me Kate

9 y/o Thoroughbred mare

I bought Call from Samantha Blake very early on in the game, when she was EEq. Any new person in the game has felt that compulsive desire to buy titled horses. A horse with a title, most of the time, will go to a newbie willing to pay twice as much as the horse is worth. I can’t recall what I bought Call for, but it was definitely a worthwhile investment!
I have brought Call all the way to RCp. and fully intend to take her the rest of the way. She is, by far, my favorite horse. A close second is her daughter, Unbelievably Kate, who has shown her mother’s talent for hunters and jumpers. You can’t give me a bigger compliment than to compliment my barn or Call, because I’ve put a lot of energy into both of them.

Call is always a pleasure to ride, because she’s so highly trained, and it’s not unusual for me to ride her bareback and bridleless in the summer, or for me to ride her from the stable to the field or vice versa.
Judges Comments
This winner [KF Call Me Unbelievable, English Thoroughbred Halter Class, Nutmeg Cup] is the young son of a well-placed mare, Call Me Kate. The resemblance was obvious in his stunning facial features and enchanting stare, with finely made legs and apparent strength. He was no puppy dog, but of very high quality just the same.

Regular Working Hunter, Summer Show Series #4
Call Me Kate was close. After the first two classes it looked like she'd be a serious contender, but unfortunately she didn't place in handy.

Adult Hunter, Summer Show Series #4
Call Me Kate was also serious about winning. After a 3rd over fences, she took control in the stakes.

I was honored to meet and evaluate Call, who I have heard of and watched with awe in the show ring! She is an impressive eight year old, that I am sure will only continue to ripen with age! Before I met Call and reviewed the paperwork, I could tell from her show record I was dealing with the crème of the crop! This mare has several tricolors to her name! By looking at her show record, anyone could see that she posses a wonderful personality--she has won championships in Children’s Hunters and Jumpers, Junior Hunters and Equitation, Adult Hunters and Equitation and Jumpers, showing that she has the ability to adjust and succeed at many different levels! Also with good ribbons in the halter classes, it shows she has exceptional conformation and beauty to her name! I almost wonder if this mare should have been called "Call Me Blue" since she has so many blue ribbons to her name! This mare has an incredible jump--reminds me of the pictures I have seen of Rox Dene! Her movement under saddle is just as stellar! Her personality is responsive and eager to please. A wonderful mare!

With over 130 ribbons, five reserve champion titles, and two champion titles this mare with ordinary bloodlines is destined to go extraordinarily far. With an amass of hunter ribbons and three offspring on the ground, one of which is already receiving praise, her future as a proven broodmare is nearly solidified. But Call is only eight so I see a few more competition years out of her before a move to being a full time broodmare. In the mean time, I suggest keeping her exactly where she's at in terms of level of competition. She appeared very eager when I watched her over some jumps and displays a beautifully healthy attitude. She was extremely responsive to her young rider and she seems to adore the love she got from the children who were there. The only discipline I may suggest taking her slowly with, is upper level adult rider jumper classes. When I mentioned this you replied by saying that she'd actually just won a third place ribbon in the third HA Summer Show Series. I took this into consideration but I still feel that her heart is not all the way in that particular level as it is in her others. Other than that yellow ribbon she only has two fourth places and three fifth places recently earned. Compare that to her seven blues and seven reds in hunter and children's jumper classes.
As I mentioned before, Call seems to really have a nice future set for her as a great broodmare. She obviously threw a beautiful colt in KF Call Me Unbelievable. To back it up her record boasts of over twenty halter ribbons, fourteen of which have been earned recently. You should continue to enter her in halter classes. Even though she has an unknown pedigree, once paired with champion hunter skills, proven conformation and beauty on the halter circuit, and praised offspring, Call will become a mare whose offspring become expensive but sought after prospects.
