Facilities
SLNS is located on 600 acres of beautiful Ozark Mountains. We have three barns, our hundred-stall main barn, ten-stall broodmare barn, and five-stall quarantine/training barn. We also have three 20 stall mini barns we rent. We designed our facilities with showing in mind, and due to the number of events our horses participate in, it’s served us well. A quarter mile east of the main barn, we have our track, on the only piece of completely level ground big enough to use. It’s a mile long track, with both turf and dirt, and inside it is a polo field, which for major shows can double as an area for setting up temporary stalls. Behind the main barn is Outdoor Arena 1, with Outdoor Arena 2 a short distance away. Both outdoor arenas include cattle chutes. There is also a large indoor arena, with a bleacher area at the south end for shows, and a large office with a window between it and the arena on the north end.
There are tack rooms on either side of the arena; both with plenty of space for tack, cleaning equipment, small refrigerators, and even a couch. A washroom next to the office provides room to wash two horses at once, with heat lamps overhead to dry them quickly in winter. A sink and oversized washer and dryer provide places to wash and dry anything.
On the opposite side of the stable, next to the stallion area is our breeding room. This includes equipment for A.I. and live cover.
Feed and hay is kept behind the stable, in a special shed, to prevent horses from getting to it. It is also stored in rodent proof containers.
Equipment that is very large or is rarely used is stored in the Equipment Barn. This large garage contains our small snowplow, our trailers, tractor, hay baler, and showing equipment that is rarely used, such as pans for the water jumps, several show jumps, trail class equipment, and more.
There are also many trails that go all over the land, several set up with obstacles such as small jumps. One beautiful trail, which we call the Wilson’s Creek trail, is complete with a creek to ford and wooden bridge to cross. This trail is neither named after the creek or the horse, but instead the local Civil War battlefield, which has a trail with similar obstacles.
We also have fields ranging in size from 10 acres to 20 x 20 feet. All fields are horse safe, with the exception of two with barbwire fences where we keep the cattle.
