TEXAS STATE BLUEGRASS FESTIVAL, BROWNWOOD, TEXAS, JUNE 2005 |

We were invited to Niagara Falls, Canada by Mr. Dan Bouwman (center), of The Heartland Forest Ministry. Our mission was to begin to make the Niagara area aware of Dan's new ministry. The Heartland Forest is a 349 acre tract along the a tributary of the Niagara River which will be dedicated to a nature experience for families of handicapped children and adults. The sanctuary will be constructed and dedicated to the spiritual fellowship and healing for these families. Dan has been so blessed by the Lord. As a 19 year old emigrant from Holland, he has prospered in his produce business over the past 35+ years. So well that God has directed him to purchase the last of the 'Carolina' forest near the Niagara Falls. The Homestead Pickers held concerts all over the area to bring awareness and contributions from the community. To contribute, or to consider having your church travel to the area and help Dan, just click this link - The Heartland Forest Ministry.
Dan and his team treated us like royalty with an exclusive tour of Niagara Falls, both on top and below.
And then we proceeded to change the night flood lights on the falls to our color preferences, Wow !!!!!!!!!

at the BROWNWOOD COLISEUM, June 3rd & 4th, 2005
Sponsored byThe Friends of Lake Brownwood
On Saturday, June 4th, Ezra MC'd THE TEXAS BEST FLAT PICKIN' & BANJO CONTEST and Danny was asked to be one of the three judges. The Contest was sponsored by The GIBSON Company & Fuller's Vintage Guitars of Houston, Texas. There were eight contestants on the guitar and seven contestants on banjo. Each contestant had to put up a $ 25 fee. Ezra did a fine job. Had the audience laughing hard between contestants and the guest comments were overwhelming. During the judges deliberation, Ezra entertained with some tunes on the pennywhistle and some of his stupid jokes. But it was an all around success.
The first place winner of the banjo competition took home this Advanced Gibson Banjo worth
$ 4,900.00
The first place winner of the guitar competition took home this Jumbo Gibson Guitar worth
$ 3,800.00
The Homestead Pickers were a big hit in TEXAS. We hope some of the new friends we made come up to SDC to see us once in a while. They sure treated us great. Thanks to Roy Bennett of the
Liberty Bluegrass band for thinking of the Homestead Pickers when booking the groups for this festival.
