Betsy
...loved by Lisa Bakalars

Betsy came into my life in July 2000 after spending 12 years in a puppymill. Little did I know of the road we would travel down together towards making her well.

It was a constant battle with Betsy to keep her healthy, but we did it together. Special baths, medications, trips to the vet, special foods, etc - it was an ongoing effort but worth every minute.

She had the gentlest spirit I had ever known and you could see far into her soul by looking into her big brown eyes. How this sweet kind dog could ever forgive humans was beyond me, but she did. After living in hell for so long, I vowed never to let her suffer one minute of her life with me. My life was literally rearranged to care for this special angel.

I loved Betsy with all of my heart and she loved back. She knew happiness and love and would run thru the grass with glee. She barked like crazy for her morning bananas and lounged in comfort in her special cuddle beds. She was a member of the family.

Her story began to be told across the US and people learned of the horror of puppymills/pet stores. In the spring of 2001, the fight to keep her alive began. For months we battled her health issues and then I had to finally let her go. I held Betsy in my arms and told her that I loved her and that I was sorry...that I couldn't save her this one last time.

I will never forget you Betsy.
