"Through The Eyes Of A Child" -- Lisa Rae
I held a hand I held it tightly
Of a little boy whose eyes looked up brightly
At the wonders of the Gunnison, Arches and Yellowstone Park
The Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park, Colorado; Kneeling Camel View
Delicate Arch framing the mountains, Arches National Park, Moab, Utah
Union Falls at Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming
Then he reached out to touch the stars
Above the Rockies in the dark.
Stars/The Milky Way over the Rocky Mountains, Colorado
He likes his small foot prints on every beach
From Maine to Texas to Alaska they reach
Scarbourgh Beach, Maine
Texas Beach
Beach at Kenai, Alaska
The waves are might scarey things, but they wash in pretty shells
And he can't get over the feel of the sand
The fishing boats and smells.
Shrimp Boats at Venice, Louisiana
A wheat field that is dancing to the wind
Wheat field
Makes him giggle and I have to grin
The Ozarks have wiggly roads and Alabama says "ya'll"
Highway 341, Ozark National Park, Baxter and Stone Counties, Arkansas
But I could never replace the look on his face
When he heard a bull moose call.

He tries to imitate the whippoorwill

One day he'll catch that catfish, yes he will

I've traveled all across this land, I love everything I see
But there's nothing like a three year old to make you stop and think.
If we keep clearing all the fields and trees
The clearing of a beautiful park-like setting for another housing development...why not rehab older homes? The ones we already have THAT ARE EMPTY AND FALLING APART??? The land was 'a no longer used golf course', that was full of wild life, and people had began to take nature walks through it and walk their dogs there. Not now, not anymore...what a shame.
What will he take his small son to see
Mile high buildings, smoking factories and a sky that's never blue
Is "air pollution" truly never ending???
Is this our children's future? Never to know a blue sky or trees? Just buildings and houses?
Through his eyes I see the beauty
That we all will lose.
So Mister President with all your power
Help to save this great land of ours
Let us keep our national parks and our wildlife in the wild
And take time to look at these United States
Through the eyes of a child.
