Robert E. Campbell was born c. 1791 in South Carolina and died April 1-4, 1852 in Thomasville, old Oregon Co., Missouri. Wife: unknown. Parents: unknown; a male aged 60-70 years old was living with Robert in Smith Co., Tennessee on the 1830 census. The 1830 Smith Co., Tennessee census lists Robert's household as follows: page 42/Robert E. Campbell/1 male under 5/1 male 5-10/1 male 50-60/1 male 60-70/1 female under 5/1 female 20-30 --**I'm assuming his wife died in childbirth **. Who was the male 5-10 years of age? What happened to him? On the 1830 census Robert is listed as a cabinet maker. He is not found on the 1840 Missouri census, so he had to still be in Tennessee or possibly Kentucky, at that time. Robert's death was written as being between April 1st. and 4th, 1852. He was last seen alive on the 1st. and found dead on the 4th. So, the exact day was never pinpointed. Age 60-61 years at death. Reportedly buried in Langston Cemetery, West Plain, Howell Co., Missouri. I have not found a record of this.
I know the names of three of Robert's children:
Susan Campbell b. c. 1825 TN
William H. Campbell b. c. 1827 TN
Sarah E. Campbell b. c. 1835 TN d. 1852 in same year after her father (no further info)
William was a merchant as well as a cabinet maker, through family stories and a story printed in the West Plains Gazette. The story in the Gazette was about 'scrip' written out by merchants in Howell Co. that was used as currency during the Civil War. The writer knew nothing about William H. Campbell, but he did have a photo of a well preserved piece of scrip, that was signed by William H. Campbell.
Susan married Eason C. Howell, of 'the' Howell Co., family. I do not know if he was a nephew or grandson of Josiah Howell, whom Howell Co., MO is named for. I do know the Howells were also in Tennessee before coming to Missouri.
Sarah did not marry.
