DENIZENS of the UNDERWORLD
Many power places gave special access to the underworld, or "Sidhe."
This was the realm of the spirits, of the old gods and of the ancestors, who were seen as potential allies, guardians, and guides to living humans. The hills and mounds of Celtic Ireland were considered to be the most important points of access between the two worlds, especially the man.made ceremonial mounds with inner chambers and portals.
With the dawn of the Christian era, the ancient Celtic spirit energies came to be referred to as "Faeries" or "Little People." In Irish folk legend, there are many tales of Faeries enchanting humans and taking them into the underworld through these doorways. The mortals would return after what seemed like only a day, to find that a whole generation of people had passed in the mortal world.
