Through thousands....
perhaps even hundreds of thousands of years,
human beings have recognised and invoked
divinity in feminine as well as masculine form.
This goddess had innumerable names, rituals,
and festive days. She was motherly and virginal,
wild and domestic, budding into youth and fierce
with age. She was all that human women have been
and can be. Her myths inspired reverence and
passion and tenderness in the hearts of her
followers, and from those responses they crafted
prayers to her. Prayers and songs and epics and
plays .. all these had as their source the mighty
figure of the goddess.
There is no wrong way to honor the goddess.
There is no one way to follow the Path of the
Goddess.
There is no one true church of the goddess,
no pope of the goddess movement.
There is no one ritual that unites all believers.
There are no dogmas, no doctrines, no creeds.
There is no university that can give you
credentials to honor the goddess, in your heart
or in public. There is no bible that tells you
everything you need to know and that limits what
you can do.
There is only you.
You, and others like you, who have joined to
create a religion that honors the feminine force
in nature and in ourselves. Some say this is an
old religion, come back like a fruitful tree that
has been too heavily pruned but which nonetheless
survives. Yet even if the roots are old, this is
new growth, new flowering, new fruit.
You, and others like you, walk the path of the
Goddess. How many are you? It is impossible to
say, for this journey is so individual that no
statistics can capture it. There are those who
seek out others to join in invoking her, and those
who honor her privately. There are those who find
themselves creating altars of stones and feathers
on tabletops, who do not even have a name for what
they do. There are those who pause in the garden
on an overcast day and remember .. but who cannot
find words to explain what they remember.
All are on the Goddess path.
Wherever you are on this path, I hope this site
holds treasures for you. If you have never
encountered the goddess outside your own heart,
I hope this will also introduce to you some of her
manifestations. If you have long been on this
path, I hope you find prayers and rituals to
stimulate your celebrations. If you are somewhere
between those extremes, I hope you will find much
to illuminate your way as you continue your journey.
