...It's another football season...(2006) with the
Kansas City Chiefs!
I will give brief (generally... although I've been known to rant on a bit) opinions of each game.

Interceptions, muffs, and fumbles... Oh, My!!!      The Season Opener... Not a happy time at Arrowhead!
I generally like to keep these reviews positive... but ... geeze...:(     Dante starts things off with a drop and a muff...   Trent tries to do it all by himself and gets creamed (what happened to the rule about not being able to hit the QB if hes sliding!?!) ...    If it weren't for the "hurry up" offense thing in the 2nd qtr, I'd say the defense had a pretty good day.  There were numerous "almosts" and the guys seemed to have energy. They did stop the run on most occasions...   but that 2nd quarter...sigh...:(
Ok... in the doghouse this week... Already mentioned Dante...  must include Sammy Parker with his two stupid penalties...  and should add Black (he couldn't do it last year as a back up... what makes them think he can replace Willie?)   I hesitate to mention Huard as he was put in a tough situation... but ya gotta hold on to the ball... your're a professional!!!
Now for the Good Guys... Larry Johnson (where was he in the 2nd qtr tho?)...  Tony G looked impressive(even while doing Black's job part-time)...   Huard did lead the team to a couple TD's...  and Derrick Johnson, Jerred Allen, and Patrick Surtain showed that the D has promise... I really thing so...    Now if we can only find a way to keep Herm from shutting down the Offense...:)  That's all I got...

Kansas City 6 - Denver 9   OT
I don't think anyone expected THAT kind of game?!    A Chief-Bronco game, and NO touchdowns... WOW.     Although, of course, I wish the outcome was different... I think this game should silence some "experts"...   It was obvious the guys showed up to play...  Very conservative on offense, but did far better than the average fan thought they would without Green.   Ya gotta jump on the Defense bandwagon now... they were super...   Stuffed the high powered Donkeys, and at home no less!! KUDOS to the D!!
The offense started out moving the ball pretty easily... But the fumble bug hit us again...:(   Driving it home... then, Johnson on the 6!! and later Huard on the 30 (how can they really call that a fumble?... shouldn't he get something for catching his own pass?... oh why, oh why, did he do that anyway? lol)   L J ran the ball lights-out, but his fumble kind of clouds an otherwise good day...   If only we would have come away with a TD on that drive... SIGH!!     And...What more can you ask of Colquitt? Great punting today!!
Well, contrary to what we tell our kids...   it's not how you play the game... it's whether you win or lose...   And the Chiefs are now 0 and 2.   There is a lot of season left ... but they should start winning real soon....:))

Week 3
bye
KC's BYE Week - September 24, 2006
Pretty early for a week off.... :)
Well so I thought when the schedule came out... now, it's a great time for a bye!...LOL

WIN
vs
Chiefs 41 - San Francisco 49ers 0
No... that's not a typo...lol
Ahhhh... now that is what we have been looking for!!   KUDO's to everyone on Offense, Defense and Special Teams...:))   No one is in the doghouse and everyone is a good guy!!  Where do I begin... Huard looked sharp... amazing what a few practices with the first team can do...   Alotta standouts this week... Larry Johnson, took a while to get going, but had another 100 yard rushing game...  Kennison and TonyG were catching well...  Even the Sammy's (Parker and Knight) came out positive...   Did you know the 49ers had the 4th ranked offense coming into this game?  Let's hear it for the Defense! They sure looked like they knew what they were doing today...   forced fumbles, interceptions...:)   Finally a punt return TD for Dante!...   Speaking of punts, Colquitt had another quality game...   How about Tynes, and his little punt? LOL...
Well I'm sure I left someone or something out...   But the jist of the thing is we won... and BIG... It will be hard to top this one...  But I'll take any WIN big or small...   It was good to see Trent on the sideline today...  I'm sure he won't be in any games at least until November...  But, after today, I'm feeling a little more OK with that...:))
1-2
WIN
at
Chiefs 23 - Cardinals 20
Remember it's the final score that matters at this level of the game...lol
Whew! that was a rough one! .. There were some really good plays... but they wouldn't have been sooo important if it wasn't for the stupid plays too...   Let's just go strait to the doghouse...  Fumbles and dropped passes...  it doesn't matter how good you are... ya gotta hold on to the ball!!   Larry Johnson - 2 fumbles (one during the chiefs initial drive again... killed it!    Sammy Parker dropped a couple that were right in the gut...  and Kennison let one go right through his arms that would have sustained a very important drive...:(
But ya know what? ...   the same guys just mentioned, were the good guys too! ...  Larry Johnson's catch and run for 70 some yards was the real winner... and he almost lost his head in the process...  Parker made several good catches, especially the one when he tippy toed it the corner of the end zone for a TD!! ...   And again Kennison made several key grabs...:)   Tony G seemed to be in only a couple plays... but made a big catch when needed...   And Ty Law and the BIG interception...  Did the Cardinals really think they could ice Tynes?... seemed like they wasted a time out...lol
I know we won and everything...   but I can't help but wonder what Herm was thinking when he called three runs up the middle with goal to go? ... the run was getting nothing all game...   and he as using the #3 running back!!   who fumbled on 2nd an 3rd down... thank the gods we retained possession on each fumble and managed a field goal...  I'm just a fan... not qualified to call plays... but what in the ???

Ouch!!!!
What can ya say... I could smell that here all the way from Hines Field... not pretty...    Sure is more fun on the other side of a game like that (see week 4)...:))    Nothin to do but lick your wounds, move on and take it out on the Chargers next week!!!     Ya think? lol
The Chiefs were NEVER in this one... And the doghouse is stuffed so full I can't even mention names... there all in there!    The Defense started out looking sooo hot... then, well, Ty Fall slipped and from then on it was run at will...  yards in chunks...  219 rushing... 457 total     you can't expect to win with those numbers!!   The Chiefs Offense mustered all of 38 yards rushing Larry Johnson chugging for 26 of them... no holes in the line today!!
As much as you want to knock em... I guess you can find some good in all things right?   ...   ... I'm thinkin' ...     OK... how about the O-line didn't allow a sack on Huard ...   no one fumbled the ball...   and as usual, Kawika and Tamba showed up! (too bad they didn't bring their friends along)... :(
See ya next week!!   Go Chiefs!!!

WIN
vs
Chargers 27 - Chiefs 30
WOOOOO HOOOOO!!... :))
Now that was FUN!!!   Welcome to Arrowhead Mr.Rivers...   What is it they used to say about Marty's teams and big games?   Took the Chargers a half to work out the kinks... Thank goodness they had trouble at the start... man that was fun!!...LOL   There are so many good things in this one... well I'm gunna go watch it again...nbsp; I do have to give a big Atta-Boy to the kickers...   They can kick and tackle too!!!
Well we won the taped version too...LOL    Tynes making a 53 yarder after his 48 yarder was negated on a foul... Good stuff...:)     After a first quarter of many misques for the Chargers (and good fortune for the Chiefs) it would have been a real tragedy to not have won this one.   Jarred Allen forcing and recovering fumbles... Tamba Hali fell on one... and Sammy Knight's INT for a TD was a highlight...:))   Tomlinson was held to less than 20 rushing yards in the first half... While Larry Johnson was finding his way again, gaining 132!... Tony G was in the Offensive plan this week, hawling in 140 passing yards... (most of them with many Chargers on his back)...
A bunch of guys did good... and it's always nice to beat a division rival, not to mention Marty...lol
3-3

WIN
vs
Seahawks 28 - Chiefs 35
Why do they keep doing this to me....lol...A win is a win is a win... And this was a win...   And a lot of fun...   But let me say a few things first... We have a very good quarterback, a very good backup guarterback and two additional backups.   So can anyone tell me why on earth is Justin Colqutt auditioning for the position??   We don’t need another QB...   He’s a kicker!! ...and he failed the audition anyway...     We also have a couple very good running backs... so Jarred Allen tries to join them at that position?   What are ya thinkin guys? Protect it...Fall on it!!!!
The game should have been much easier than it was...   We had the ball for over 40 minutes...   We had 500 yards on Offense!...   Our defense really played well ... 14 of the Seahawks points they had no part of...   **Huard's fumble on the 5 and of course Colquitt’s snap/holding blunder that was returned for a TD.**   On a key 4th qtr drive, they held on downs, but Surtain was called for holding... automatic first down... the next play?... Again this week Ty Law fell, and got beat bad for a TD... Then later had an INT in his hands/chest and dropped it...
Enough negativity already... we won!!   And we were Awsome!!!     The line seemed to have a good day... stopping the run... Derrick Johnson had a BIG sack late to kill Seattle’s hopes...   and Surtain’s intercepion was a beauty!   Jarred Allen’s interception was nice too... but unfortunately, he chose to give it right back…:)) Let’s talk Offense... YEA!!!   Damon Huard was super again... accurate and nice touch on his passes...   Kennison and Gonzalez each with 6 catches for over 100 yards each... big catches in the middle mostly...   And what can we say about Larry Johnson?   He ran   and ran   and ran... For 150+ yards... Ran after he cought some too... and he scored 4 touchdowns!   I’m sure he’s gunna sleep good tonight!   And although not a lot of standout stuff (2 catches)... I was impressed with the play of Kris Wilson... he showed up when it counted...:)
Well. as I said... it was a win...   should have been a walk in the park...   but the guys just wanted more drama...   and well...   it all worked out…:))
4-3

WIN
at
Kansas City 31 - St Louis 17
It was the LarryJ and TonyG show today!!!...
Kansas City has a defense!!   What a difference a year makes...   Second week in a row we come out of the gate just CRAZY... this one was better tho... cuz we were on the road... and we all know how well we usually travel...:))   but they took the entire team on this trip!
Four guys went down with injury ... Waters on the Offense and three on defense... Hali, Johnson, and Wesley... not before they made a mark tho... Hopefully it will be just the one game ... cuz we will need those boys for defense!!
Offense proved to be effecient and effective again this week...   It was nice to get all the good field position (thanks to the D and Special teams for getting the turnovers!)  but we did it from the 4 too... so I guess it really doesn't matter...lol   Larry Johnson had 130-some yards rushing in the first half and it seemed that TonyG was the only receiver today... but it worked!!   Jared Allen was a mad man again on D... while the other seemed to just be doing their jobs... stuffing the run...  That was so much fun...:))
We didn't get any help from Cleveland or Pittsburgh... the Broncos and Chargers both won again... so we didn't gain any ground... but we didn't lose any either...:)    Question...How/Why were the Steelers able to tear us apart... yet look so bad now?     Let it goooo Maureen....lol
Sure was good to see Trent in uniform on the sideline today...:))  looks like maybe he will be back in a couple weeks!   Huard has done a GREAT job... and that is his job... to sub-in for the QB when needed and do a good job... but when the starter is back... the back up steps aside....    I'm sure the guys on the team understand this... But, would someone alert the media....

Chiefs 10 - Dolphins 13
And it wasn't as close as the final score would indicate....
Maybe this will put an end to all the "who should be the quarterback?" talk. Really folks... was it ever in question??   Not in my book...    We have traditionally had problems playing in Florida... and today was no exception...   The Chiefs played like %#&$*!! (thats the G Rated word for Doo-Doo)...  Justin Calquitt and Jared Allen were the only guys to play in the first half...  Not sure where everyone else was ... but they sure weren't at Pro-Player Stadium.
Our totally predictable offense (hand off to Johnson or pass to Gonzalez) was stopped in their tracks in the first half...   5 strait three-and-out's ...   maybe a couple first downs but relatively no offense...   I understand you need a good defense to get anywhere in this league... But, ya gotta have have some offense too... move the ball... score some points....    I guess Allen and Justin woke the guys up at half time... cuz we had a chance to win this one... but couldn't make the plays that mattered!
Tackles... I hope they go back to practicing those this week...   There was a lot of hitting... but the guys didn't fall down...  Imagine that?... Our guys did...   maybe because the Dolphins were actually tackling?   Hmmmmm?...
Good stuff....   Jared Allen finally got to run with one... Nothing like being in the right place at the right time?? That ball bounced so perfectly...:))   Tony G caught almost everything in his reach... and it's a good thing... since it appeared he was the only receiver Huard could see...    Kennison made a few beauties when he got the chance...    Well that's pretty much it...
5-4
WIN
vs
Raiders 13 -  Chiefs 17
Yea for the good guys!!!.
We had a lot of our guys out.... Not making excuses... we won after all... just stating fact...:) Tony G, Derrek Johnson, and Brian Waters all out...:(   But... Hey, we also had the return of Trent!! He was kinda low key...  (scripted that way, I'm sure) but did get things done...   same as last week, we needed a late drive and score...   the difference this time was... we got it done....  and the fact that it was the Raiders made it just that much better...
Green threw for just a little over 100 yards ... but he was really good at handing it off to LJ...:)) Johnson ran for 150 yards... Kaweka Mitchell seemed to be in on every play for the defense... which looked good again....
6-4
WIN
vs
Broncos 10 - Chiefs 19
Thanksgiving Day.. and a good one!!Now things are looking up!  Back to back division wins...  Could we ask for more... Well yes... but this will due for now...  The game was a good one... no real shining moments really... just all business... which is ok... a win is a win... it's the final score that counts...not all the fluff...(oh, but I so enjoy the fluff) lol    It was only 4 days since last weeks game... but I guess thats all the time we needed...  Back with the team was Tony, Brian, and Derrek...  good to see that... maybe everyone will be healthy during the stretch run...
Why is it that Kennison has so many of the great kind of catches, but seems to drop so many routine-in-the-hands kind?
Again Larry Johnson ran for over 150 yards...   He's gunna get tired pretty soon...:))  Bennett took a couple of the handoffs and broke out for a couple nice gainers...   Again this week there weren't any real spectacular kind of plays, but enough to get the job done.   Well, I guess Sammy Parker had some fun runs after catches... Ty Law intercepted one (as did Patrick Surtain, even though it didn't count.. we all know he picked one...:)) and well, Tynes did kick 4 field goals...   That's a lot of field goals!   can you just imagine if we could have gone on in for the TD instead?...   ohhh well... lol
7-4

Loss
at
Kansas City 28 - Cleveland 31 - OT
Well... there were some very positive things in this game...
Let us start with the offense - over 415 total yards...   Trent Green threw for almost 300 yards with 4 touchdown passes...  Eddie Kennison picked up 117 pass yards w/ one TD...  Tony G had 105 pass yards w/ 2 TD's...  Larry Johnson again rushed for over 100...    over all we didn't seem to have a lot of trouble moving the ball down the field!!
Now for the defense - Pollard recovered a fumble on a kick off return...   Kawika Mitchell had an interception and seemed to be in on every play....   and K.Fox got to the QB for a big sack...    The Browns QB was hurt and unable to play the 2nd half!
Hey... by the way...   did you by any chance notice the score above...  we LOST!!   ...   We were ahead by 14 with 9 minutes to go... and we let them tie it for OT... and even though we had the ball first... we couldn't get it done....     Here are a few things I failed to mention earlier...   Well on the short drive after the fumble recovery, the ball was picked in the endzone...   Late in the game (maybe even in the OT) Chris Wilson dropped one(in his hands) with a clear path ahead...   and our defense just wiffed by them ... they failed to wrap em up and TACKLE!  ... There were many times they would have been stopped, but because we chose to shove instead of tackle... they got big yards...   54 and 33 yards after a couple of wiffs....   The 33 came in the OT on a QB scramble...  he was running...   you CAN hit the QB... just ask Trent.
I think I have said this before...   but it seems we play to the level of our opponent...   we are the better team here...   there is no excuse for this loss...     Last week, things looked pretty good for the Chiefs in the Play Off picture...   this week...   not so good....:(

Kansas City 9 - San Diego 20
This game was moved to Prime Time... And The Chargers showed they are the better team!
There were moments.. but not nearly enough... The defense showed they are better... but we have lost our offense... :((
The Chiefs are no longer in control of their own fate...   we need a little luck and a LOT of help... the scenerio is lengthy and pretty much a pipe dream....
I would like to state for the record... I am not a Larry Johnson fan... He can run... I'll give him that...  I do, however, wish he would catch and/or block more than he talks... he is a Kansas City Chief... hence I am a fan...  But, in general... not a fan of LJ....

Ahhhh yes....   a sweep of the Raiders, provides a sense of accomplishment in a rather average season....
Tha chiefs are still not mathmatically eliminated... lol
They still have a shot... a LOOOOOONG shot...    but a shot...:))

Win
vs
Jaguars 30 - Chiefs 35
What a way to close out the regular season!
Many thanks to our special teams-- Blocked punt and recovery by Bernard Pollard!! and some fine play when we needed from the offense and defense!!    I've often written poorly of Ty Law, but today he earned his check!   And Jared Allen, gotta mention his name every week...   It's obvoious he wants to win...  Trent was hot at times and not so hot other times... but he layed a beauty over the defense to Kennison in the back of the endzone... and Eddie (6 catches for 144 yards) made another circus type catch along the sideline...   Larry Johnson carried the ball often as usual... churning out 138 yards and 3 rushing TD's.
We had to win this one and wait for the results of three other games... before the playoffs were decided....     And would you believe all the chips fell our way??     Ladies and Gentlemen, this season is not over... We are in the playoffs... at 9 - 7 we are going to the playoffs!!! :))
