Welcome to the Shifter Class!
This lot of blurb should (hopefully) explain what (and how?) a shifter is.
Directions from X: - 16w, 4s, 4w, #, 4w, $, 6s, e, s, 12e, 11s, 3e to L.
- 11w, 7s, s into river, swim s, 13s, 3e to L.
- If in Frog form: 11w, 22s, 3e to L.
# is where newbies (low dex) fall off the bridge. Swim w to shore, all w, then go from $.
How to join: At the Log Board, type 'join', then 'yes'.
My attempt at a map:
N R--S--B L = Log Board R = Roar B = Bolder
| / N = Nocturne S = Slither
--L--G * K G = Greenthum * K = 'enter pond' to Kroak
Fear my artistic abilities!!
How the class works:
As a shifter, you change into forms that give you various abilities. You learn and advance these forms (through training) at the various shifter NPCs.
Nocturne teaches opossum, the first form.
Kroak teaches frog form.
Bolder teaches rock form.
Greenthum teaches the Forest Clan forms.
Roar teaches the Feline Clan forms.
Slither teaches the Reptile Clan forms.
First you learn opossum at Nocturne. You gain 'time in form' (i.e. just being in form, but note that time when you are a stone statue doesn't count) and experience and then go to Nocturne and type 'train opossum'. She will either give you a message saying what you need to do before training more, or she will start the training session.
All the shifter NPCs will give you a message telling you whether you need more time in form or more experience. Sometimes the messages might not mention 'experience' or 'time', calling it 'putting more effort into your lessons' and similar phrases. Click Here to see the lists.
After you get opossum 3 (medium size), you can learn a clan form and/or frog. The clans are Reptile, Feline and Forest.
The first REPTILE form is Chameleon. It has 5 sizes (like Opossum and all other forms except rock). To learn Nelitos, the second-level Reptile form, you need Chameleon 3. To learn Drakon, the third-level Reptile form, you need Chameleon 5 and Nelitos 3.
The FELINE forms work the same way, but instead of Chameleon, Nelitos and Drakon, there is Cat, Panther and Xaerre.
The FOREST forms are the same, but with Flower, Tree and Treant instead of Chameleon, Nelitos and Drakon.
To learn rock, you must have opossum 5 and frog 3. Opossum, Frog and Rock forms belong to the BASIC clan.
TO LEARN a new form, you need to have the required forms (e.g. Flower 3 before learning Tree) and a certain amount of experience.
TO TRAIN a form, you need time in that form and experience.
Experience can be gained with any form (or in your natural race), but time in form must be gained in that form. There were rumours that time gained in second-level forms could be used for first-level forms, but these have not been confirmed (to my knowledge).
As you get higher level forms, gaining experience becomes easier, whereas gaining time in form (often called "idling in form" or "lying around in (insert form here)") becomes longer and harder for those of us with less patience (or less things to do). With that in mind, I've put together a list of Things To Do While Idling.
