Since I can't mention names I must encourage you to watch for certain behaviors and take a few minutes to check up on those you might consider doing business with by following steps outlined below.
If you are looking for ENGINE REBUILD KITS beware of this new scam...He will insist on a BANK TRANSFER of funds and fax you a form containing their wire transfer information and "Warranty Statement" STOP IMMEDIATELY, this fine print scam is not easy to spot, especially if you're in a hurry and need those parts shipped right away. Basically the fine print says you have no right to cancel or refuse shipment or ever get a refund. The supplier may ship a partial order but you will NEVER see the bulk of the parts as they have no intension of ever shipping them to you. Another thing to watch for is the bank address..is it in a state other than the address of the business ??? do not do business with them regardless of how low the quote is. Sounds like a easy law suit....not if you signed on the dotted line however! A PROFESSIONAL LOOKING WEBSITE DOESN'T MEAN A THING. MAIN TARGET IS EXPORT BUSINESS SO THEY ADVERTISE WORLDWIDE ON ALIBABA... !

I still have to say though that this is not enough.. I know of a few companies who I thought surely would have complaints against them.....but they're NOT THERE. If you are say... looking for a rebuilt transmission, call a few companies in the same field and ask questions. Just because they have a full page ad in a parts and equipment magazine doesn't mean they won't try to rip you off !

UPDATE 2..6-14-05 Beware of email requests from a company claiming to be in NY requesting hydraulic pump repair cartridges. The monkeys have finally realized that "Nigeria" is a word they shouldn't use anymore and they're expanding their list of Cat part numbers beyond the usual pistons rings and injectors. These email requests are still easy enough to spot. They still use words like "urgent" and "immediate". The spelling is usually really bad. They almost always use free email , Yahoo or Hotmail. A quick way to check if your not sure is to ask for their company information. If they blow you off or act like they don't understand your request...then you know you have a monkey ! Update 3..Some may not call this a rip-off or scam but it comes awfully close. There are a lot of parts houses out there quoting parts that are on back order...and that's fine except for the fact they don't tell you until your ready to buy the parts. Then "SURPRISE" those are 45 days out and your customer think you have them on the way 2nd day air.. I won't mention names but when searching for Terex, Euclid or Fiat-Allis parts.... Here's another new scam "email" looks legit as it has a phone # "which is actually a fax number. Knowone ever answers of course. It has a web address that goes knowhere although there are some companies with very similar names. I've gotten this one before but decided to post it this time. THE BEST THINGS YOU CAN DO TO PROTECT YOURSELF FROM THESES SCAMS : Train all employees about credit card scams. Have a manager or owner double check all credit card transactions from new clients. Use fax forms for clients to fill out. Ask for copy of card , front and back as well as photo ID, drivers license or passport. Make sure someone has spoken directly to the client by phone. If you have ANY suspicions don't rush through the sale. Double check that the customer is using a valid in country phone number. Check the area code that it matches the ship to address.
