Issues and Dialogue
To Baby T.My friend may be pregnant and doesn't know what to do. When you were pregnant did you ever think about having an abortion?Response from Baby T.When I was pregnant I thought about making a lot of choices. I thought about making myself fall down the steps. I thought about hitting myself in the stomach to have a miscarriage. I just never really thought about getting an abortion cause I always knew I’d never have enough money to pay for it. But as I got along in my months I began to realize that this was a human being just like I am. And if I hurt my child who knows if this chance would ever come again. It really depends on how much she loves herself, her boyfriend, and mostly her baby. You have to let her decide.
To Mickey MouseI think a lot of people have the misconception that kids in a group home are juvenile delinquents. Do you find that people have that misconception about you?Mickey Mouse responds:Yes, a lot of people have the misconception that I did something wrong. It never came to their mind that something wrong was done to me. They think just because I am in a home I am up to no good, or I will never amount to anything. But I am going to shock the world like Silk-the-Shocker. Maybe when I get older I will write a book on my life.
QuestionHey everyone! I saw your page, and think it's pretty cool. I like how you've been able to say what you want to say without giving away too much about yourselves...that's probably not an easy thing to do. I had a question, though, if you don't mind talking about it: How did you get into state custody to begin with? How has it been, overall? What do you see as good and bad about the system as a whole? Basically, I guess I'm asking how you got where you are today, and how you feel about the way things are done.Tommy
Lil’ Black responds:Well, Tom, I got into the system when I was little. The only thing I can really remember is when I went to Echo and I was nine years old. My mother died on my 10th birthday; September 1st. After that I went to live with my grandfather and I got put out because of difficulties due to him trying to compare me to my cousin and me not wanting to be like her. So I got put out and ended up back in Echo. I got put out of Echo and went to juvenile for 8 days then came to this home where I have been for a year and 9 days. P.S. Write for more information about Lil’ Black.
Destiny responds:You really want to know how I got into DFS custody? Well I don't mind telling because it's not a secret but to some people it is. I am 15 years old and my birthday is in May on the 20th. I put myself in DFS custody. You might think that is stupid but I have a very good reason why. That reason is I was getting beat up by my mother's husband (have you ever heard of if he's not your daddy he shouldn't put his hands on your children? Well he did and I didn't like it.) He walked in on me every time I got out of the tub, but I don't get into to much on that. He choked me before he beat me with his hands. He grabbed something he shouldn't have grabbed and more but I don't have time to explain the rest. My Mom was a part of it. I actually had a fist fight with my mother and I walked out and didn't come back until a couple of days later. I finally realized that if my mother is showing all her love to her abusive husband then I don't exist. I went to school the next day and I told my counselor "What would you do if a student come to you and tell you they are getting beaten and touched by a male?" And she said well we have to call the hotline. So I told her it was me. From that day forward I was put into DFS. If you want to ask more questions my e-mail address is destiny.t@angelfire.com.
Tweety the "G" responds:I got in to the state's custody because my grandmother got sick and me and my younger sibling didn't have anyone to see after us. (My mother do drugs) Good: You get to go to college. Bad: Deal with personal attitudes. No outside life. I don't like everything that has been done, but I can't complain. God is my strength and without him I would not be where I am today. I don't really have to, but it depends on you and your case, but I stay in St. Louis. Thanks for your input. God Bless.
Mickey Mouse responds:This is Mickey Mouse, and I got into DFS when I was four. They took me away from my mother because they said she was an improper parent. She was on drugs. Overall I think DFS is terrible. If I could I would sue them for neglect.Write back anytime.
Sike-O responds:I got into DFS custody because when I was younger I was considered what most would call a "neglected child" because my mother was not around, but I do not feel as if I was neglected because I was in the presence of my grandfather (Bless his soul) my uncles and aunts who lived close by. When my aunt had gotten drunk one day she decided to call the hotline on my mom and they sent a counselor to the house and she brought the police to take us away but me being the person that I am I asked a lot of questions but they did not respond and they took me to the station and then put me into a foster home and I've been in custody since then.
Pooh responds:I got in DFS custody because my mother did drugs and my aunt got drunk and call the hotline. I was 5 yrs. old at the time and very small to know what was going on. All I remember is that the police picked me and my sister up and we went to the police station. That's all I remember. It happened 10 yrs. ago.
Baby T respondsWell over all it has been nothing but problems. The state is to help you, but they make the situation worse. To me there really isn't anything good about the system. Things in DFS custody needs a little help. They act like they are in kindgergarten.
T Bear responds:Hi, I wish I can answer your question but I don't want too. I keep my life story quiet but I may be off DFS someday soon. I have court 4/11/00 I hope thing turn out the way they are supposed to be.To Mickey Mouse: What should I do about my nails that break and my split ends? Mickey Mouse responds:About your nails, my nails break a lot too, so I go to the shop and get tips. They help your real nails grow. When they're long enough get a silk wrap on your real nails. This will make them strong. Then you should keep a bottle of nail hardner. Now your hair, my hair is a little bit past my shoulders. I got my split ends cut and I wrap my hair every night. Keep it moisurized and wash it regularly. Comments
Thank you very much for creating this site. Even though I work mostly with
kids birth through age eight, I also do some parent workshops, and I will be
printing out your parent's page and giving them copies. I think it's great
that you guys are doing this, and I'm going to pass this website on to some
of the family centers that I work with.
A lot of people I work with are funny about using the Internet but I think if
I can give them a site that they can relate to like yours they might get into
it. Maybe you could add some links to other sites that would help, like info
for teenage parents.
I love your stories. Daniel
