NanakiXII ^."".^ ----------------------------------------------------- This FAQ DOES NOT contain any main game walkthroughs! ----------------------------------------------------- Contents: 6) Ruby Weapon 7) Wutai secret area guide 8) Secret bits and goodies ------------------ 6. Ruby Weapon ------------------ * Ruby Weapon - Time taken 1 hour This weapon is found in the desert near the Gold Saucer on disc 3. You will see a red tendril sticking out, ram it with the Highwind or a golden chocobo, but not before you have sorted your equipment! The prize for beating Ruby weapon is a gold chocobo (you will get the desert rose, take it to the man in Kalm Town and he will exchange it for a gold chocobo.) However, this is a bit of a let down because to beat Ruby, you will definitely need the Knights of the Round materia which means you will already have a gold chocobo anyway! Your materia combinations for Cloud should look something like this: Enhance Sword: Knights of the Round linked with HP absorb, Bahamut ZERO linked with Quadra Magic, Mime, Magic plus, Hades (backup) with HP absorb if possible. Mystile: HP Plus to 9999, MP plus to 999 (if possible) Ribbon Another team member should have the following accessories (I used Red XIII): Any normal or double weapon: Enemy Skill with Big Guard, Heal, Phoenix any other materia (except Counter materias) Aegis armlet: Any other materia (except Counter materias) Sprint Shoes For the final member, equip: Any normal or double weapon: Enemy Skill with Big Guard, any other materia (not Counter materias) Any armour: Any other materia (Not Counter materias) Sprint Shoes It goes without saying that you should have full HP and MP for all characters at the start of this battle. You should also save. It may seem a bit careless telling you to equip any other materia on the other two characters, but you are not going to use them during the battle! (Shock horror!) Usually, Ruby weapon will cast Whirlsand on two of your party members which removes them from the battle. This happens on about the second round, so before they get removed get one of them to cast Big Guard. Once this has been done, get Cloud to cast Knights of the Round at Ruby. If you manage to do this when only one character has been taken away, you will get to keep the remaining two characters, so be quick! If Cloud gets taken away, reset until he gets to stay and then follow the instructions which follow: 1. Get someone to cast Big Guard 2. As soon as Big Guard has been cast, get Cloud to cast Knights of the Round at Ruby (not the tentacles.) 3. When Knights of the Round has finished, you will be healed to full health due to the HP absorb materia. If you still have two members, press triangle on their turn to skip it until you get to Cloud again, then Mime. 4. Mime every round as you will get healed every time the summon finishes. 5. If there is a problem and you accidentally interrupt the stream of mimes, or you need to use an elixir or Turbo Ether, either cast Knights of the Round again if it is at Level 2, or cast Bahamut Zero at Ruby. This will run through 4 times due to the Quadra Magic. 6. Keep miming Bahamut Zero (or L2 KOR.) 7. If you mess up with the Bahamut Zero, cast Hades and mimic. 8. If Hades goes wrong and Ruby still isn't dead, you've had it! 9. Eventually Ruby should bite the dust giving you massive EXP, AP and Gil. Notes: If you got to keep the two characters, the materia you equipped on them will gain massive AP's at the end of the battle as a bonus (providing they are still alive.) You cannot use the Sense materia on Ruby Weapon. If you feel confident you are not going to mess up with the Bahamut Zero, don't bother with Hades and fill the rest of the slots with HP Plus as you won't last long with less than 9999 HP's! The point of casting Big Guard is so that you are in Haste mode and therefore your time bar takes less time to fill up. This means that Ruby has less time in between summons to attack you. The Ribbon will stop you getting hit by the tentacles for various status ailments (e.g. poison) and losing HP that way. You may find the battle easier if you have W-Summon to summon Knights of the Round twice a turn and Final attack linked with Phoenix in case you die, but it is possible to win without them. -------------------------- 7. Wutai secret area guide -------------------------- * Getting back your materia At some point you will need to visit Wutai. If you have found Yuffie already, this may be a problem because as soon as you set foot on the continent, she will steal all of your materia, do a runner and let two Shinra soldiers attack you! Beat them and Barret will come along and join your party as the third member if you had Yuffie, but you will carry on as normal if you didn't. You can still use PHS to swap him if you want. Head to Wutai and enter the town where Yuffie will see you and run off. First you need to go to the Turtle's Paradise Inn and talk to the Turks (it's the one with the jar outside.) Elena will run off somewhere and they will not attack. Go to the item shop and the lady will have moved from by the chest allowing you to take the MP absorb materia. As soon as you lay your hands on it, Yuffie comes down and steals it - what a cheek! Follow her to the old man's house by the entrance to the town and look behind the screen, she will run off to the jar beside the Inn. Approach it and press circle twice to catch her. She agrees to give your materia back so you end up at her house. When you pull the switch though, a cage ends up over your friends (the other lever does the same thing.) Pull it again to release them then head to the pagoda area where there is a building with a bell to the left. Go inside and ring the bell which will open up a door below. Get the treasure chests and meet....Don Corneo! Follow him, face the soldiers and then talk to the Turks. Go to the Da-Chao statue at the back of Wutai and follow the path to the middle section where Yuffie and Elena are strung up on a cliff face! After a conversation, you will have to fight Rapps, Don Corneo's pet dragon! * Rapps Items such as Fire Fangs and Bolt Plumes are useful here as you have little or no materia. Beware the Aero3 attack as it can kill you instantly! Use your X-Potions and Elixirs to stay alive while hacking away with physical attacks. Reno and Rude bump off Corneo then you find yourself back at Yuffie's house where she actually does give back the materia and the MP absorb, although in the wrong slots. You can also find the HP absorb materia in the room next to Yuffie's house with all the cats - press circle to get up the stairs. Note: You can also do this quest if Cid or Tifa is the leader, but the outcome is still the same. * Leviathan Scales You will find these in Junon Docks after you have beaten the Carry Armour. They are in a chest to the left of the submarine. Once you are in Wutai, go up to the Da-Chao statue. If you follow the path round to the top left, you should find a cave with flames in it. Collect the weapon for Cid from the chest on the right then walk into the flames. You will see a message that says "The scales of the water God shine" and then you will be able to use the Leviathan scales. Do this twice on the first fire pit for an Oritsuru for Yuffie and once more on the second fire pit for a steal as well materia. * The Pagoda This Pagoda is dead easy on disc 2 or 3 but well hard on disc 1, so I suggest you do it later rather than sooner. Before you go in, save your game, and take note of the sleeping quarters to the right where you can restore your HP and MP for free between each battle if you need to. Make sure you have good armour and weapons equipped (e.g. the Oritsuru and Mystile or Aegis) and some restore materia. Enter the Pagoda and talk to the man by the door, this is Sacred Gorky. He will only give you the option to fight if Yuffie is in your party, and only Yuffie will participate. * Sacred Gorky Use your choco and mog materia as he is weak against wind. Bahamut Zero does good damage as do some of the better enemy skills. Gorky can cast Reflect, Regen, Barrier, MBarrier and can attack. This is a really easy battle. If you beat Gorky, you can go up to the next level. If you lost a lot of life/MP then go back to the bedroom and rest. The next fight is against Shake. * Shake This is also easy. She changes into a penguin from Cosmo Canyon and can use the Rage Bomber attack which quickly fills your limit bar. Use Ultima, Comet2 and Contain magics and mime if you can. Quadra magic also helps. Use Cure2 if you are low on life. Again, follow the stairs up to fight Staniv * Staniv Same old story, use summons, mimes, high level magic etc. He changes into a six eyed creature (from Mt. Nibel) and can cast Stare Down, Drain and attack. I recommend using the counter attack materia so that if he tries to drain energy from you, you can immediately get rid of it again as well as your normal attack. Reasonably easy if you are on disc two or three. * Chekhov He changes into a ball and chain wielding monster from the Shinra Mansion. Use the same tactics as before to beat him fair and square. HP absorb is a particular advantage. * Godo The last fight is much harder, make sure your accessory is either a ribbon or a bolt ring. If you have the bolt armlet and ribbon, this is better still. If you don't use the ribbon, make sure some Heal materia with Esuna is available. You should have at least 1500 HP's preferably much more. Godo can cast Trine, Bio2, Demi2, Sleepel, Mini, Beast Sword, Drain and Cure2. The bolt ring was to nullify the Trine attack (learn it as an enemy skill if you have not already done so) and it is rather a pain being mini due to your attacks only causing 1 point of damage. After you get him down to about 3000HP, he will cast Cure2 every time you try to damage him so there are two options. Either hit him hard with a powerful summon or Ultima Comet2 or Contain, or use the enemy skill Magic hammer on him 8-10 times so that all his MP is gone and then kill him slowly (or softly!) with weaker attacks. If you win, you will get Yuffie's limit break manual (All Creation) and the Leviathan summon materia (water) as well as everyone's undying respect. ---------------------------- 8. Secret bits and goodies ---------------------------- * The door in Mideel This must be done before Mideel gets blown up in the second disc. If you climb the stairs and go into the shop on the top floor which sells weapons, you will notice a door. Try to open it and you will get a message that it must be locked. Now go along the walkway to the accessory shop, but instead of going inside, go around to the right. Walk about until you hear a creaking noise. Stop exactly where the noise was and press action. Tifa or Cid will bend down and find a 'Beat up useless old key.' How boring, you might say, but now go back to the door and try to use the key. It will break off in the lock! When the man asks you what you are doing, tell him the truth (don't lie your butt off!) and he will give you the Curse Ring before explaining that the door is only painted onto the wall! * The Gate 5 Midgar Key Go to Midgar on disc 3. There will be a man standing outside the gate, talk to him and he will tell you that he dropped the key on an excavating trip. A-ha! Go to Bone Village and talk to the man who lets you place archaologists. Dig in various different places (or just by the small piece of metal, cheater) and you will find the key to Midgar City. When you go back to Midgar, the man will have gone allowing you to get back into Midgar again. You can go to Aeris's church to see a vision of her and also get Tifa's ultimate weapon, the Premium Heart in the room in wall market marked 'Item' where a gun usually fires at you. The shop which sold you the batteries has on sale the Sneak Glove (an accessory which allows greater success in stealing) but it is a bit pricey. Also have a laugh at the weak enemies you struggled to beat at the beginning of the game :p * The Chocobo Sage The Chocobo Sage's house is on the Northern Continent near the Icicle Village. It has a green patch of grass by it so you can land the Highwind there. Talk to the green chocobo for an Enemy Skill materia and you can get information and buy things from the Sage himself. * Lucky 7 Fever This is hard to do, but if you can get one of your characters HP level to exactly 7777 (Barret is easiest), they will be put in Lucky 7 fever mode. This means that you cannot control them, but every time they attack, they hit for 7777 points of damage. Cool! * The Alexander materia When on the icicle stage near a lake, there will be a place where you can touch the water, it is a hot spring. Now find a cave with a man inside it (near the entrance forest), touch him and he will summon an ice maiden to attack you. Once you have dealt with her, you will receive the Alexander materia, it's well worth it! * Limit Breaks At first, you may have no idea what Limit breaks are or how you get the next one. Never fear! To get the first Limit break of a level you need to kill quite a few enemies with that character. To get the second break, use the first break about 6-10 times. You will know when you have got a break as it will show up on the EXP/AP screen after a battle (e.g. Finishing Touch gained). To change the break level, go to the menu screen and choose Limit then Set. Carry on like this to get the other limits. * Chocobo racing prizes If you have a good enough chocobo to win against Teioh lots of times at the Chocobo races, Ester will give you a Chocobracelet, Champion belt, Precious Watch and Cat's bell. Aww. * W-Item trick This glitch obviously went unnoticed. When you have the W-Item materia, equip it and then select the command while in battle. For the first item, select the one you want to duplicate and select who you are going to use it on (it doesn't matter who.) Now select any other item and press circle, but do not specify who you will use it on, press cross instead to cancel it. This will mean that the first item you chose will increase in number by one every time you press circle then cross. particularly useful when you are skint and you need some chocobo greens! * Turtle's Paradise bonus Throughout the game, if you read certain bits of paper, you can earn one of each 'source' and an elixir. The Turtle's paradise flyers are located: 1: In the boy's bedroom, sector 6 slums. Near where there is a sleeping man in a pipe. 2: In the Shinra Building, on the noticeboard near the lift 3: In Wutai when you go into Yuffie's house it is a scroll on the wall (in the basement.) 4: In Cosmo Canyon, the piece of paper by the Tigerlily arms shop 5: Also in Cosmo Canyon, the paper at the top of the Inn (entrance on the ground floor near the Cosmo Candle.) 6: In the Gold Saucer in Ghost Square, there is a sign saying SHOP You will now need to go back to Wutai to the Inn where you met the Turks. Read the noticeboard outside then go inside and talk to the barman. He will give you the prize. A bit pathetic for all that work methinks! * Hi-Potion trick This may seem a bit sad since Hi-Potions are not exactly the best item available, but they can be useful when your HP levels are low. In the slums near Aeris's house, go into the boy's bedroom (the same one as for the Turtle's Paradise flyer.) He is asleep. If you examine his drawer, you will get the opportunity to steal some of his savings (a measly amount of Gil.) Do not do this, but return to the bedroom later on after the slum gets blown up. He will give you a Hi-Potion that he bought with the money you didn't steal. Some nice people around here! * The bloke in Kalm Town On disc 3 in Kalm Town, there is a bloke on the top floor of one of the houses (the one with a woman in the bottom floor deciding what to do about her savings.) Talk to him and he will tell you three things he needs: Desert Rose, Earth Harp, Guidebook. Bring these to him and you will get a gold chocobo (Desert Rose), three master materia (Earth Harp) and the underwater materia (Guidebook.) To find them, you will need to beat the Ruby and Emerald weapons (not hard then) and morph a ghost ship in the underwater reactor. * The Frog Forest This is the hill area on the top of a rock formation near Cosmo Canyon. You can get there by gold chocobo or kill the Diamond Weapon and a crater will appear allowing you to walk up. Once in there, use the frogs in the bags to allow you to get on further in the forest. ---------------------- Well, that's the end of the FAQ! If I have made any mistakes (and I'm sure I have), or if there is anything which you think should be added to this FAQ, please email me at nanaki_1999@yahoo.com and I'll consider it for the next version! I really hope this has been of some use to you rather than wasting your time downloading it. Good luck! P.S. The reason there is no Emerald Weapon guide is because...umm...I haven't actually beaten it yet *shame*...!!! :P
