My Thoughts

Gary is my favorite actor in the Kansas City area. He just has a style and personality both in his acting and in real life that appeal to me. I saw Gary in four consecutive shows at the MO Rep during the '98-'99 season. Each character he portrayed was totally different from the next, and had I not known him and seen the plays a gazillion times, I would have thought each role was performed by a different actor. My favorite, by far, was his portrayal of Pizarro in Royal Hunt of the Sun. Gary was filled with emotion and a natural spirit easy to identify with; the life he gave his character was so genuine and believeable. Every night, I wanted Atahuallpa to come back to life at the end just because Pizarro's grief was so strong, I couldn't bear it without crying myself. I always look forward to the next chance I get to see Gary perform.

I must add a note to say that Picasso at the Lapin Agile, at The Rep was spectacular. Gary was wonderful as the art dealer, Sagot; he was witty and insightful and excellent. But then I expected nothing less.
