Jefreys' "Plaza" Production Scheduled for Summer 2001
ST. LOUIS, Missouri (February 23, 2001) -- The Jefreys released a
statement
today indicating that production of their second album, "Plaza," will
go
into production in early summer. The Jefreys, creators of the G-Fi rock
genre and 2016 presidential candidates, have had no commercial releases
since "Sold Out" debuted in 1999.
"We aren't lazy-asses, really," said Matt Zimmer, Jefreys' lead singer,
"It's just because Erwin insists on studying poetry in Cincinnati while
I
languish here in St. Louis."
Zimmer also added that the Jefreys did record a song last summer that was intended for a movie soundtrack.
"People forget about 'Head Maps'", he said. "We did that for a John Travolta movie, either Battlefield Earth or Lucky Numbers, I can't remember which. Anyway, they decided to knock us off the soundtrack at the last minute because they got a late commitment from Matchbox 20. Like those guys can even touch us musically."
Some in the industry have speculated that Erwin has secretly met with
Guided
by Voices frontman Robert Pollard at unspecified times during his three
years in Ohio. Erwin, however, denies the accuracy of these
reports.
"It pisses me off that people think I need inspiration from somebody
else,"
said Erwin, "I mean, just because I shoot hoops with a guy named Bob
who
lives in Dayton doesn't mean a damn thing."
Additionally, Jefreys fans on an AOL chatroom have perpetuated a rumor
that
Zimmer has spent a whole year writing one song on the new album. It is
believed this track goes by the mysterious title of "Guevadoces."
"People just have to wait and see," said Zimmer. "This band has always
been
about mystery."
