Ticket Called on Technicality
ST. LOUIS--The Republican party has brought out a little known rule in an attempt to derail the 2016 presidential campaign of Democrats Matt Zimmer and Bryan Erwin. The obscure law requires that the president and vice-president hail from different states. Both Zimmer and Erwin are registered voters in the state of Missouri at this time.
"This is a dirty trick by a party that is obviously frightened by our campaign," Zimmer said at a hastily thrown together press conference in his basement. "They will try anything they can to keep us from getting to the White House, but we refuse to be deterred."
Vice-presidential candidate Erwin reiterated his earlier promise to move to Hawaii.
"I've been saying from the very beginning that I would be spending much of my time in Hawaii, trying to get those four key electoral votes," Erwin said. "Looks like I'll have to buy that condo now."
The slip-up apparently passed through party ranks unnoticed because Erwin currently makes his residence in the state of Kentucky. However, residency is determined by voter registration, which places both candidates in Missouri.
"I just hope the Republicans are proud of themselves," Erwin said. "This is going to end up costing lots of money and causing lots of headaches."
In fact, Erwin noted, a condo in Hawaii may be so expensive that he would not be able to afford it. He urged Democrats to send their campaign contributions quickly to prevent that from happening.
