Did You Know? Many female dogs & cats are put down because they are pregnant - or spayed while pregnant - aborting the babies. Conditions & policies vary in different facilities, but many puppies and kittens die because they can't get the special care they need. Some are fostered out, but others are deemed "sick" and put down instead of being given antibiotics and a warm bed.

Is it illegal to rescue needy pets? |
According to what I've been told by the Missouri Department of Agriculture YES Don't even rescue ONE animal unless you have a license. Thousands of people, fed up with the growing slaughter in most shelters, have become private rescuers. I happen to be one that got caught. Who would have guessed that doing a community service is illegal? The Department of Agriculture tells us it can't possibly close down all of the unhealthy puppy mills because it is understaffed. Yet they have time to harrass rescuers, both average citizens and licensed groups! Why is that?
They're certainly too busy to look into abuse & neglect cases called to their attention by concerned citizens. If someone lives in a rural area there is NO animal control, no rules to say how they treat their animals, no limit on how many they can have.
