* Minnie's Adventures! *

************* Min and the Squirrel ************

Everybody said don't worry, Min couldn't be fast enough to catch a squirrel.
Riiiiiight. Everyday when we'd go out for our walks, these two young adult
squirrels would tease her. Stay at the base of the tree until she charged then
scoot up part way, come back down, then go higher and sit on a limb and
twitch.

I usually have my thumb on the brake of her lead, just in case and she'd try so
hard and then stand there, trembling with adrenaline and frustration, bright
eyed and r e a d y!! Well, this weekend we came around the corner heading
home and I guess that squirrel was sitting right there in the grass by the usual
tree..... I didn't see it and didn't have the break.

Min zipped over there, zoomed around the tree and grabbed that squirrel by
the tail!! Dragged it back in the grass to the sidewalk as I pulled her lead
back. She was so excited and in pure hunter mode!

It tried to spring away, but she thumped it with her big paw and got a
hold of the leg.......I'm pulling all I can. She had it on it's back and she went
for the throat
*yank* then the belly *yank*, back to the throat. I'm  yelling,
 "Oh NOOO! Don't kill it!!"

I finally got enough of a grip and was able to yank her off so it could get away.
I have never seen her in hunt/kill mode!! She used to stand and bark at mice.
The squirrel wobbled to the tree and hunched up in the roots in total shock,
just frozen there. I'm telling Min "NO!" and dragging her to the apartment
and believe me, I almost didn't get her there, she was just nuts!!

I checked the squirrel a few times until it finally came out of the shock and
crawled slowly up the tree. I hope it lived, looked like one back leg only was
injured. But, it hasn't come back around here! Min finally got her revenge!!
I don't really blame her, but I just couldn't let her kill it...... and what if she
ATE it??? *yuk*
