The Mormon Faith & Black Folks
Question #19

Q. Why should black people become Members of a Church, which denied them certain rights until 1978?

The Priesthood of God is not a “right”! It is not a civil-right. It is a Divine Privilege. It is the Power of God delegated to Man on earth. If our Priesthood is false, then there is no reason that anyone should desire it; especially black males of African lineage. However, if our Priesthood is true, then it has the power to bring people exaltation; which is Eternal Life in the Celestial Kingdom of God. Worthy males who are ordained to the Melchizedek Priesthood, may be sealed to their wives and children in LDS Temples. This “sealing power” resides only in the President of the Church or his ordained deputies.  Jesus told Peter that He would give him the power to “bind on earth what shall be bound in heaven, and to loosen on earth what shall be loosened in heaven” (Matt. 16:19).

*Binding and Loosening on Earth and in Heaven

What does this ‘binding’ and ‘loosening’ refer to?

Read what the Apostle Paul writes:

“For the woman which hath an husband is bound [married]   by the law to her husband so long as he liveth,  but if the husband be dead, she is loosed [divorced] from the law of her husband.” (Romans 7:2)

Under the Law of Moses, marriages between a man and a woman were for this life only. To be married is to be ‘bound’ to the spouse, and to be dead or divorced is to be ‘loosed’ from the spouse. Paul advices those who are on missions:

"Art thou bound [married] unto a wife? Seek not to be loosed [divorced]. Are thou loosed [ divorced] from a wife? Seek not a wife.” (1 Corinthians 7:27)

Jesus said to Peter:

"And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever shall be bound [married] on earth shall be bound [married] in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose [divorce] on earth shall be loosed [divorced] in heaven.” (Matt. 16:19)

This “binding and loosening” refers to “marriage” and divorce”, and the “Keys of the Kingdom of Heaven” refer to the sealing power; which only The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has. No other church or religion on earth has it; because it comes directly from God.

*The Sealing Power

With this sealing power, worthy men and women may be sealed together for time and all eternity; to be together forever in eternal family unites. All other Christians (and indeed all others) shall become after the Final Resurrection (i.e. the Day of Judgment) “ministering angels”; like eternal monks of nuns. They will be alone and single, without offspring, for all eternity.

However, faithful Latter-day Saints, who are sealed together in one of the Temples, and who remain faithful, worthy, and “endure to the end”, will be married in Heaven for all eternity; become literally Adams and Eves on other worlds--the Eternal Worlds---worlds without end. They will have the ability to procreate, and to live in real Gardens of Eden; for all eternity. All other Christian churches teach that Christians shall become “like the angels in Heaven”; who “marry not, nor are given in marriage”. And this is true! They shall not be married in Heaven, but single and alone for all eternity; Ministering Angels; like eternal ‘monks’ or ‘nuns’.

But Latter-day Saints who remain faithful and worthy shall become more than that, and shall inherit Gardens of Eden. If black folks do not desire this, then there is no reason for them to become Members of the Church. How do you wish to spend eternity? As an eternal “monk” or “nun”, or as an Adam or an Eve; worlds without end in Gardens of Eden? The choice is yours.
