How Do I Know the Bible is True?
Many times the question is asked, "How do you know that that Bible is valid and not some book written by men?" After most people are asked that question, they don't have the answer to it. Well how do I know? Awesome question. One that many of us should know the answer to. Here is how we know!
Many people use the excuse that the Bible is not accurate because it is being based on second century documents written so long after the life of Christ that they could not have been recorded accurately. That opinion and conclusion about the New Testament (NT) are twenty-five years out dated. These opinions found their source in the conclusions of a German critic, F. C. Baur assumed that most of the NT was written late in the second century A.D. He came to the conclusion that all of these writings basically came from myths and legends that had came about during the time between Christ's life and when they were written.
Before the twentieth century, however, archeological discoveries had proven the authenticity of the NT manuscripts. The discoveries of early papyri manuscripts (the John Ryland manuscript, A.D. 130;the Chester Beatty Papyri, A.D. 155; and the Bodmer Papyri II, A.D. 200) had bridged the gap between the time of Christ and the already existing manuscripts of a later date. William Burrows from Yale said "Another result of comparing NT Greek with with the language of papyri (discoveries) is an increase if confidence in the accurate transmission pf the text of the NT itself."
A. H. McNeil, former Regius Professor of Divinity at the University of Dublin, challenges form Criticism's concept of oral tradition. 1 Cor. 7:10, 12, 25 shows careful preservation. In Jewish Religion, it was customary for a pupil to memorize a Rabbi's teaching. In C. F. Burney's theory (The Poetry of Our Lord, 1925) we can assume that most of the Lords teaching is in Aramaic Poetic form making it very easy to memorize.
Alright, so it was easy to memorize and gaps were closed.... but whoop! How do I know what was written in the Bible really happened?!
