V.O.I.C.E.S Victim’s Outcry Impelling Conclusions, Explanations, & Solutions In 1990 my son, Brian was killed and we are still not sure how it happened as he was working and going to school out of state. As many of you know, the devastation of loosing a child is incomprehensible and devastating. There is no other pain that can match it, my heart was broken, my mind was so confused. We needed to get Brian home and bury him, yet we did not have the money, nor life insurance. I had not had time to comprehend my son’s death, yet I had to make plans to bury him. I was in total denial, how & why my son died and how could I even be sure it was my son? I had not had time to comprehend what was happening and yet I had to start arranging for my sons final resting place. Then came the reality, the words of the coroner, “ You need to get Brian out of here before we start charging you storage. I was horrified and devastated, “storage”!!! This is my son!! We got Brian home, and buried. All the details, are still very much a fog in my memory. I do know that there was a hand of God that intervened,
Since that time I have met so many people that have shared similar experiences. I was shocked at the unexplained deaths and circumstances the victims families faced. I was even more horrified at the lack of support and available resources to help these victims. Not only were finances an issue of funeral expenses, but also in discovering the reasons and causes of the death. There is such an injustice of the system in not being able to pursue the rights of the victims. I still do not know what actually happened to my son. All I know is that he is dead and can no longer pursue the cause, he has no VOICE to speak. In knowing this and meeting all the other that have needs, we have decided to be their VOICES and speak for them.
As a group we are united in our dedication to help victims of unexplained deaths. Our goals are to assist those who need help in the following areas: financial, legal, investigative, educational, bereavement, funeral arrangements, counselling and spiritual support. We pledge to be the VOICES for them.
Our goals are to offer these services and resources from our national headquarters located Buffalo, Missouri. It is a 25 acre area, beautifully landscaped, with an abundance of wildlife and trees, it even has a stocked 5 acre lake. Its intended use would include seminars, training sessions, counselling services, and a meeting area. VOICES will also offer an 800 phone number for those that need a personal touch, along with a national newsletter, a website, informative printed resources, educational materials, and volunteer training.
We will plan a yearly retreat, providing 2 weeks for the VOICES visitors to meet and unite with others with similar needs. During that time we will offer seminars, training, counselling and other resources. This will also provide a quiet place to heal and grow with inspiration. We would also have fund-raisers, establish volunteer services and develop ways to apply for federal and state grants.
Our future dream is to build a small chapel, a trail as a memorial walk for the VOICES victims with a multipurpose building and a few cabins for visitors staying at the retreat.
If you would like to be a part of VOICES in any way, we welcome you to our cause. We need help in all ways as we are just getting started. Listed below are some areas you can contribute to, even if it is not listed the needs are still there.. whatever you can offer we will gladly utilize. We are a NON PROFIT Organization, so all contributions are tax deductible !!!
