Cham-dance

Highly spiritually trained monks perform the Cham dance, literally "deity-dance". In the tradition of Zongkar Choede it is performed in connection with the meditation of Lachen Choephel Sangpo, who was a outstanding lama of the monastery and highly erudite. He was greatly respected as a yogi of the tantric deity Vajrabhairava.

At the turn of the year the Cham dance is performed together with the exile Tibetan community as a thanksgiving offering to the guardians and protectors of the religion and its believers.

The Monastery has performed Cham dances at various exhibitions around the world as well as in the Hollywood blockbuster Seven Years in Tibet. These Cham dances were basically performed to raise the level of awareness about Tibet and Buddhism in the international community and also to raise funds for the Monastery.
