Skeet Ulrich had heart surgery when he was a kid and has a hollow pipe in his chest. When Sydney jumps out of the closet and stabs him in the chest with the umbrella, it was a real reaction by Skeet because Neve hit him right on the wounded area.
The scene when Dewey falls over after being stabbed in the back had to be filmed numerous times because the knife kept falling out.
The scene where Billy pushes Gale onto Dewey had to filmed over and over again because Courtney Cox and David Arquette kept laughing.
In the original script, Randy kills Stu by dropping a VCR on his head instead of Sydney.
When Gale drives the van off the road to avoid Sydney, the van was originally supposed to flip over, but the stunt went wrong and it headed straight for the tree. The scene was left in.
In the movie, the voice over the phone was not a voice changer, but yet a real actor. During the scenes with Drew Barrymore, tension was kept up by not letting each of the two actors meet each other until after the shoot.
Drew Barrymoore is ia animal lover so Wes Craven would tell her a story about a cat that was set on fire so he could get Drew to cry in the scene.
